what do you people use to clean your computer out? I was using glary utilities, its not bad, but i stumbled across one called advanced system care, you can unlock the pro version if u get a serial, it is a very good computer cleaner. better than ccleaner and glary utilities i think

Here's a few tips:
don't install stupid shit : )
tell things not to startup at boot
turn off any services you don't need
use updated firefox with some addons like adblock for browsing the web
run the windows updates and firewall, along with some antivirus
really windows is the same as anything else, it just has a component structure that internal services depend on, and the configuration information is in the registry instead of flat files. internals are exposed differently in windows, but it's not like it should need "cleaning"; although once you fuck it up, good luck fixing it : ).

try using the default windows cleaner.
start menu --> run --> cleanmgr
then select the drive you want to clean
you may want to configure the compressed old files settings to just 1 day. That will sure increase hd space a lot.
after doing the cleanmgr defrag ur pc. u can use the command prompt... defrag -f c:

I use the Task Manager - anything dodgy will show up there. Don't use firewall, antivirus or antispyware. Common sense is enough.

Common sense is enough.
Not always. There's some sneaky drive-by downloads out there hidden in ads, even on sites you might normally trust.

That pic is bullshit, that is
absolutely
the
best
way to clean the dust out of a motherboards heatsinks. PC experts recommend you should do it once a month to keep your PC running as cool as possible.

Should have removed the processor first. Actually, get that puppy %110 dry before you slap it together and it MIGHT still work ok.

There's a good article in this months insecure mag that reminds me of the old days - the article is called "Bootkits - a new stage of development" Make a pretty good case for being a bit uh careful (read paranoid) about security. The issue is found at

good ol FDISK & a low level format best solution to pretty much every software bug available.
Used to do it all the time before HD's god so big. Reinstalling 5 or 10gb is nothing, but reinstalling 250gb of software, settings, making sure assets are in the proper folder structure to work, etc. is such a pita!

Quake II is not 27 years old. I refuse to accept THAT much time has gone by.
