no backwards strafe jumping

Ever since I started playing again I haven't been able to strafe jump backwards. I don't know why, but if I'm holding +back and left or right strafe +moveup does nothing. aside from a new keyboard does anyone know how to solve this problem?

New keyboard can do it. Try getting updated drivers for it or your motherboard. (Yeah, saying the words keyboard and drivers in the same sentence makes me cringe)

Some computer systems have issues pressing 3 or more keys at once. I've seen it all over computer labs and even on some of my work machines. Some of them only affect specific key combinations. For example my work computer refuses to press space if i am holding q and s. (most MMO's map q to strafeleft and space to jump)

It only seems to happen if you order a cookie cutter PC from some a crappy wholesale company like Dell and Gateway.


EDIT: I should probably also note that all computers I've seen with this issue use brand new USB keyboards. I've never ever ever seen any problem even remotely similar using a PS/2 keyboard. Even using specialty keyboards  that do require drivers. I'm fairly certain that using a USB to PS/2 converter can solve the problem. Most keyboards and computers come with those.

Cheaper keyboards don't have N-key rollover:

My current/new keyboard seems to have multi-key rollover, but not N-key rollover

However, so far it's multi-enough for Q2...

Well once you factor in that +moveforward and strafe + jump works fine it provides a clue to the problem, or at least I would think... I would assume that it's something different from what you're saying being that it takes the same amount of keys to strafe jump forward.

I'm at work... but I *think* that if I hold jump down after a jump, it won't allow me to go back in the air... or on the ground if I were to keep holding it for that matter.

So anyway, I checked my cfg for anything funky to do with my +back bind but everything is fine. hmm... I almost want to bind different movement keys and try it out being that W + D + Space and W + A + space both work fine, yet W + S + space does not.

Getting a new keyboard is obviously the best option. I'm just giving this a shot being that the closest place to purchase a keyboard is an hour and a half drive away, and i'm always working.

There is no 'same' amount.  Depends on where the keys are located relative to the arrangement of the scanning matrices that detect the key presses.

On a cheap keyboard, you might get 2-key rollover with certain key combinations; 3-or-more key rollover if you press keys that don't conflict...
