recommend a new sound card,puh-leeze

I have an Creative Audigy 2 that has been giving me big trouble,and everytime I try updating the drivers,the sound goes away entirely.I want something modern but not too expensive..maybe 100 bucks tops or so...something that will work with my 3.4 G clunker.... Thanks:)

I gave up on sound cards a long time ago. I use to get them because they would give you better quality sound... but onboard solutions give just as good quality these days.

I know that the Echo Indigo LAPTOP soundcard is the best for laptops. The sonic difference over Creative and others is immediate. However I don't know if they make desktop PC soundcards. Maybe some research on the net is needed.
