I played q2 at 320x240 res in software for about the first 2 years. Wanted to keep an fps of atleast 20  .

you had a better rig, didn't you?  DIDN'T YOU?        (I envy the days when you could have the min req's & a $150 vid card could quad your performance.  Now, it's the min's!)

It looks like a development kit is almost ready for the public. I'm sure it will only be moderate compitition, but it is a sign that this really is the new direction for game engines.

the garage game site seems better imho.  It's got a greater variety.  Basically, why be limited to quake live with there's open arena?  I just don't get why id is competing against the fan's with a free game.
