Games With Cutting-Edge Gfx

On a side note gears of war and crysis are terribly overrated.

BSB Crysis is all about graphics. It's FarCry Future, and Gears is a Console game first so the transition is not so good.

Interesting.  I just downloaded the Crysis demo--which I guess has been out for about eight months already--and I was realllly impressed with the gfx.  The gameplay seemed fun, too--although I am not a connoisseur of that type of game. 

One thing about the gfx - I read that although the ultra-high quality mode is supposedly DX10 only, and is disabled under DX9, you can just tweak the config files and enable the ultra quality anyway.  This turned out to be true.

So I just played thru the demo with ultra-high quality settings enabled, and I thought it looked awesome.  My card seemed to be able to handle it... the framerate was fast enough it seemed smooth.  (GeForce 8800 GT OC2)

Anyyyywayyyyyy.... I'm wondering which games people currently feel have the best graphics?

I have Crysis running under SLI 8800 GTX cards, ultra high on my dx10 vista raid @ 2560x1600. Amazing gaming experience.

Bioshock is an honorable mention for graphics as well. Runs great on my dx10 vista raid, maxed out.

Unreal Tournament 3 looks terrific as well and of course Call of Duty 4....

Assassin's Creed look amazing too.

If you're not running a big display then you should be good to run these games but with a 30" display like mine I need a little juice to get the performance I expect.

roommate was running crysis on his custom pc, 9600GT i believe. graphics were nothing short of mind blowing to me at the higher settings.  almost as good as q2 gl_picmip 7

yeah, custom build = cheap for a great comp. 

I didn't think crysis was all that good.   I think metroid on the wii looked better. 

I also feel et:qw is one of the better looking games out there.   Better then ut3 imho.  ut3 looked like crap I thought.  bioshock looked great though!

Yeah... you can get a "great" computer for cheap.

Or... you can build a KICK ASS computer for $3,000+ like me!

Of course that was back in October so it's already outdated :p but still holds it's ground.

it's amazing that the difference between a ~$1300 comp & a $3000 comp is normally a CPU & GPU now a days (and related parts, IE motherboard, memory).   And that's normally between a just-under top of the line CPU/GPU & top of the line one. 

IE my ATI 3850: ~$150 when I bought it.  The 3950 (or whatever) was ~$400.  For only ~a 5% performance increase.

I just have a 360. It runs smoothly on 1080p on my Aquos 42"

Games for it are really great looking and are stable. Once accustomed to the controls I find it hard to go back.

Yup.

My QX6850 was $1,030 and my two 8800 GTX KO cards were $600 a piece. $2230 of my whole $3000+ computer were just three parts.

I didn't include my monitor... which was $2,000... BUT you should see my TV! (24" upside down labeled Magnavox from 1992) Some people buy $2,000 50" TVs... I buy big, sharp, badass monitors cause that's what I sit in front of and watch. See people give me shit for it all the time, like "why did you buy such a expensive montior and computer? you could of had a big tv and a fast car..." I don't care about TV and cars though!

However I plan to get a PS3 soon... not acceptable to run on the TV I have!

You can run it on your monitor Jager, if it has an HDMI slot of course. There are HDMI-DVI converter cables too.

That's what I did with my 360. Had it on my PC monitor with the surround sound speakers I had. Worked great, super sharp image.

I personally recommend against picking up a PS3 on the basis that it's multiplayer system is horrendous and the graphics really aren't that better to warrant the purchase. Sure it comes digitally ready right out of the box with the HDMI port but now so does the 360 Elite.

Good luck with your descision though.

Yup. That's very true and it does have HDMI. Thing is it's in our 'computer' office room of the apartment which isn't big enough to accommodate people plus it's always fairly hot and uncomfortable in there considering the heat my computer produces.

I want a PS3 cause #1 it looks cool, #2 it has bluray and I have a bluray burner on my computer now doing nothing, #3 I can't stand console controllers but I can tolerate the playstation controller, #4 I already had a 360 I was borrowing for when gta4 came out which I played for about 3 days before I beat the game. I didn't enjoy the 360 in the time I had it... #5 I understand the multiplayer and the download able content but I don't want to pay a subscription to do so and frankly I don't see myself playing multiplayer with a clunky controller I despise which will just make me pissed off.
