Forum signature length

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS,

I'd like to solicit some opinions on a reasonable forums signature length.

I shortened it recently, because I was getting vaguely irritated by seeing little 1-liner posts with trailing 20-line signatures.  However, now that it's been shortened, I see that at least one person *cough* DWxchzrles *cough* has taken to now pasting the overflow from the big signature into each and every post anyway!!!

At first I found this--shall we say--REALLY ANNOYING.  But then I thought, well, maybe people actually liked seeing behemoth signatures on every post.

So I could increase the signature length again if that's what folks really want.

I don't really mind them being a bit big, as long as they aren't made up of 100 lines of some irc conversation from years ago, or a quote/spam/flood ala dahang and co.

If you've got a clan sig and maybe a user bar and a short quote, it doesn't take up a huge amount of space..
It's all the linebreaks in the long chat conversations/quotespams that make them annoying.
you end up spending half your day scrolling to read a post that says:
 "I concur.

I'm not sure how it works.  I didn't edit any sigs manually, I just decreased the maximum length.  I figured it would probably leave existing sigs alone until someone went to edit theirs.  But maybe it just chopped them down indiscriminately?

I checked mine to see if the text was still there, but it's gone..
looks like it just hacked 'em down past the limit mark and dumped the rest.

Now I'll have to hunt for the thread you made that post in, and C&P it onto the end of all my replies just to spite you!!!!1!

yeah, realized when i deleted my 4 lines of making fun of granny i could only put up 1 line making fun of blood.  might have been worth it..

If people want to go past the limit charge them a certain amount per line extra. Like say... $10 a line.

BTW, I am still open to increasing the limit if that's what people want.  I don't want to be tooo much of a stick-in-the-mud about it.

The current setup is fine with me.  I only want enough room for a short quote.  Its not like anyone reads them anyways

in my opinion, it would be nice to be able to put 2 blood quotes in my signature instead of one.  what was the character limit before, like 600? its 192 now and i can only manage one b100d quote.

I'd love to scroll down and read other threads of material in people's signature while trying to read the actuall thread at hand.

Short signatures are much better. Less spamming.
