Tomorrow a mercy killing will be taking place. It has been a faithful sidekick for about 3 years. My 9800 Pro will be put out to pasture. It served me well over that time, scored countless frags and never let me down.

Last year the problems started. The fan seized up and the entire fan assembly melted right out of the card. I replaced the fan, and the card amazingly continued to work even though you could smell the pcb as being burned, but there was some damage done even though it tried to hide it. Over the past few weeks, the card would often stop outputting a video signal entirely, and usually when I was at 28-29 frags and about to win a map.

Tomorrow an eVGA 7900GS KO replaces it. If that card is half as tough, it will serve me well.

Actually I put the 9800 pro in my son's computer, then lowered the core and memory about 10% each and it is working fine so far. He might get a year out of it, who knows.

The 7900GS is a great card so far. Farcry and COD2 all maxed out in pure splendor. Plus getting timerefreshes of over 4000fps in quake2 makes me chuckle.
