Speakers Corner
« on: October 11, 2021, 06:16:24 PM »
I wanted to share a section of youtube i think lots of people here might be interested in and it revolves around religious debate.

Speakers' Corner is an area where open-air public speaking, debate, and discussion are allowed. The original and best known is in the northeast corner of Hyde Park in London, England.

I have been watching these videos from speakers corner for about a year now, and popular channels include Soco Films, EfDawah...

names like hatun, bob, apostate prophet... ali dawah, hijab, etc christian prince LOL, this guy is a bomb for islam...

It is fascinating and really interesting to watch and understand the depth that these religious apologists get into when they debate and argue and fight over religion. A couple months ago a woman was almost knifed to death for wearing t shirts about muhammad and criticizing islam and it was caught on camera.

I thought i would share this, and include a video. Its really addicting...you might learn new things you may never have known as well...

What does one get from debating religion? The opportunity to yell and feel superior to another person,... but not much else.

And I'm not saying this to proclaim my superiority to people who DO debate religion. If you believe in it, you're probably gonna defend it when the topic comes up. Whatever. I don't care what people wanna do or believe. We all find our own best way.

Discussion of religion... is completely different. I enjoy learning things I don't know, especially when it comes to strange and unique cultures and religions. Problem is... you're probably not going to find someone who practices a "Strange and unique" religion yelling at people on a street corner. You're going to find common religions like Islam, or Buddhism, or Judaism (maybe not Buddhism... they tend to be kinda "introverted" about their beliefs). The rare "Strange and unique" person... will likely be a ranting raving schizophrenic... and even then, most of those think THEY are Jesus Christ.

And that's kinda what drew me to the Church of the SubGenius as a teen. They were strange and unique. They parodied and made fun of ALL religions. It showed the absurdity of the worlds most popular current and historic religions. But at the same time, it was fun and it felt like a special unique club that you were a part of, and in a way, it gives you some perspective on how people can make themselves become so enthusiastic about some strange idea that defines whatever religion a person makes the choice to follow. They do it because they find that they ENJOY and appreciate the rituals and dogma involved with it. And if you're simply an atheist looking at religion from the outside, maybe you never gain that kind of perspective.

Your common stereotypical angry internet atheist needs to gain this perspective. Humans are not robots and will never be. People connect with these religions on an emotional level moreso than an intelligent level. And that's how they can lead themselves to believe absurd things that materialistic atheists call "crazy". And they're not wrong in that judgement. In the human brain, emotions have a profound ability to override rational intelligence.

I agree with you, but there is an amazing level of knowledge that the common man really doesn't know about their own religions. Watching these videos enlightened me to hadiths in islam, to the concept of the trinity in christianity and so much more.

I was ignorant in so many things, but you only really understand a religion when you hear about it from the enemy or the otherside.

And then there are videos where you see a satanist convert to accept some form of god, and its amazing to see.

The concept of the trinity seems crazy, but the way they explain it, i guess its possible.

In Christianity, God is the Father, the son, and the holy spirit, and its all considered 1 entity, so Christians still  believe in 1 god.

The Christian god has 3 personas, but 1 divine essence. They act independent and separate but share the divine nature.

I thought at first that the Christian god was 1 persona, acting as 3 different forms, like water turning into ice snow and rain.... but i guess that's considered modalism and heretic...lol.... but i think there are christians that believe this, and honestly, this way makes the most sense....

BUT

the Christian god is actually 3 distinct persons, but 1 being, and its true understanding is beyond human comprehension.

i guess its possible, since god can do or be anything, but its confusing as heck.

another video in depth on the trinity

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHVgViE8vJA&ab_channel=SOCOfilms

so jesus purposefully limited his access to divine knowledge when questioned about the final hour and stating that only the father knows...

the muslim sheik brings out a good point, that you can pray to the father, the son, or the holy spirit, and that as 3 distinct personas, any of them can answer the prayer, thus meaning 3 gods.

but i guess this goes towards the incomprehensible human ability to understand the nature of the christian god. it almost sounds like a computer network with 3 computers plugged in sharing the same router and the same operating system.

Hey 2dum
(its paledim from hals)

You've got a good grasp of the doctrine of the trinity.  One God, three divine Persons.  When I was seeking God I was getting constant signs about the number 3 but I didn't understand until I read the bible (Everything clicked when I saw "The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit")  I knew God was telling me that this is who He is and that the bible is His book.  When I gave my life to Jesus I became a new person (born again)

Hi paledim, long time! i remember playing the mini maps with you in ra2.

I am glad you found a path in life that makes you happy. I am only as knowledgeable about the trinity as the videos ive watched from speakers corner. These guys are real pros and know their stuff.

what i cant wrap my mind around is how the 3 persons share the same divine nature, yet modalism is considered blasphemous and heretical....

its almost by default that sharing the divine nature means you come from the same source even if you are distinct personas.

thats where i get lost.

sharing the divine nature means modalism in my mind.

Definition of modalism

: the theological doctrine that the members of the Trinity are not three distinct persons but rather three modes or forms of activity (the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) under which God manifests himself.

If you are distinct personas, then it gets weird. i cant figure out how to comprehend 3 distinct personas still maintaining 1 entity of god. but dont get me wrong, its possible, i just cant understand it.

what does sharing the divine nature mean.....

anyhoo, i thought id share another cool video.

This one is a heavyweight jew from israel vs a heavyweight muslim. The rabbi came for a special visit. The two end up hugging at the end, but i cannot help but find his message fascinating. The rabbi states that jews believe in multiple covenants from god to different people, and so it is possible for different faiths to believe in the same god in different ways, ie, different sharias. This is something new to me, and i whole heartedly agree with it. check it out. 8:15 timestamp to shortcut
