Blood decals

Hey ive tried all the programs like q2evolved/quake2max/egl/ect... but I can't take any of the cool gorey blood out of any of them to put in a pak, do I HAVE to use one of these mods to have better blood in my q2? Any info is well appreciated.

It's not in any pak file. It's the client itself. If you want to see all that blood splatter, you have to use an updated client. I've tried out a few different clients, and it's been my experience that EGL does the best job with blood splatter effects.

does aprq2 have better blood decals? i know it has better particle effects for things like the hyper blaster splash

Damn is that same with water, rockets, and railtrails? You guys know where to get some good railtrails?

R1Q2 has the cl_railtrail command. I don't know about EGL, but I know Apr doesn't.

quake 2 evolved rail looks the coolest... too bad the client is garbage

really, some one needs to take apr, and do more graphical upgrades as it seems to best client to do so, using particle effects from q2 evolved and such

I dunno exactly what you mean by "water". The textures covering water could be modified and placed in a pak, but if you're referring to any kind of water splash effects (like when bullets hit the water), those would be particle effects and determined only by which client you are using. Some clients might have different water color opacity and bubble/stretch/ripple effects, I don't really know.

Rocket models themselves you can change by way of a pak file. But again, the afterburner flame trail and smoke effect would be determined by the client. No way to change that.

Railtrails... theoretically, you CAN change the color of the spiral rail trail in the regular client by editing the colormap file, but I would advise against it. The colormap is basically a color palette that the game used to determine colors for things throughout a map. You can use a modified colormap file that has a different color painted over the light blue color that would be used by the railtrail with something like green, but... maps like Aerowalk that use similar blue colors will also be changed to whatever color you painted over that portion of the colormap file with to change the color of the railtrail. Aerowalk has lots of blue colors on the walls. If you were to change the colormap to make your railtrail green as I mentioned, a map like Aerowalk would then have green colored shit all over the walls instead of blue.

(note: that might not be the exact case if you use a different video driver like r1GL and the hi-res texture pak which is mostly PNG images. I'm not sure if editing the colormap would effect PNG images, although it would probably effect lightmap colorings and slightly change the appearance of things)

If you want to change the overall appearance of the railtrail to have a smoother look like the one in EGL, once again, that's only something that can be done by a client and is not modifiable by way of a pak file or any other normal means.

Yeah I noticed all that stuff too about them diff colored railtrails a while back, when I ment water I mean like the water from egl that looks really cool and realistic, its looks like there is light actually passing through it. Damn that q2 evolved railtrail is the best ive seen indeed, they using pak files called pk2, is there any way to crack those open to yank out those trails, probably not lol. Well thx for info.
