Crosshair Zoom

I was in the DM server. And I remember there was this one command that I was taught a long time ago. I can't find it anywhere. I was wondering what it was? Its where you zoom in with the cross hair. I'm sure everyone here knows it. What is it

It's usually a bind you write for the mouse wheel up and down that changes the FOV.

It'd probably be something like:

bind mwheeldown "fov 120" (120 being your normal current fov whatever it is)
bind mwheelup "fov 30"

If you use the mouse wheel button for crouching, this bind could become a little annoying if your wheel is too sensitive. Sometimes you'll go to crouch and it'll zoom in and throw off a shot you're lining up. Precisely why I stopped using it.

You could also bind it to switch to another custom crosshair during the zoom, perhaps use the "echo" command to make it display something like "SNIPER SCOPE ON" or "ZOOM IN" across the top of the screen when you zoom. You could also add a custom sound to play when you use the bind to make it sound like a lens zooming in or something.

I'll have to take your advice on that. I wanted to use that when I was using the railgun on q2dm8.

I think I'll see what happens when I'm in game, and then I'll probably just change it later on if it doesn't work for me.

I use to like zoom alias until I started getting kicked out of servers for it. I don't understand why a client side alias needs flood protection.

I think it has to do with how these zoom alias scripts change your 'userinfo' string.  All client settings like current skin, name, hand, fov, spectator, crosshair etc. are in that string. So if for example you change skins or crosshairs every couple of seconds you can get kicked for flooding. Even typing spectator 1 over and over when the spec limit is full will result in a kick for flooding.

this way you have your fov and sensitivity values taken directly from your set values when you let go of your zoom, that way if you change your fov and forget to change the alias you arent dropping back to 100 fov when you let go instead of your set 90 or w/e... PLUS this also pulls out the zoomfov and zoomsens values so they are easier to change with their own line in your config rather than needing to dig through the zoom alias itself

Yeah, I forgot to add the changed mouse sensitivity to that. Once you change the fov to something smaller to zoom in, the mouse will still move your crosshair at the same speed which will make aiming wild, erratic, and damn near impossible at your normal sensitivity setting. It's really up to you as to what you set it to, whatever is a happy medium of control and target acquisition speed.

For mouse wheel up and down:

bind mwheeldown "fov 120, set sensitivity 5"
bind mwheelup "fov 30, set sensitivity .8"

The funny thing is, when I did the previous commands that you gave me, it changed the view on the entire screen. Now, everything got a bit smaller. But that's okay, it made the game much faster. I was on a while ago playing BTF[Adam] on the DM server and I couldn't believe how much better I was with these settings. Thanks

Yeah, sometimes increasing your normal viewing FOV setting a little more than 90 can help to smooth out mouse aiming and increase accuracy.
