Wav File usage
« on: October 15, 2010, 01:05:21 PM »
Back for another round of discussion for wav file use in game.

I got some good replies, and did get something to work in a non-networked game.

For those interested, you MUST use a NON-stereo Wave file, or you're S.O.L.  Audacity is a good freebie for this, although making the mono track took some time and patience to find.  (Project/new audio track)

ONE of the KEWLEST things of any game is the audio and communicating w/friends/family.  I really want to impliment this feature once my "TEN PACK" packages of wav files arrive for my family/friends to use, There HAVE to be servers that will allow this wav be sent back and forth.  KALI did it.

OK<> OK... QUESTION:     :help:
What servers allow the use of wav file enabling on other connected games?  ie: I play a sound, all other hear it IF they have the file in the right place.  (Baseq2/sound)  Thanks all... LONG LIVE Q2!!

Reply to my oWN POST..

I'll concentrate on setting up my own server, I guess.  It will help reduce the flow of unwanted players during our family get-togethers anway..

So.. Can anyone point me towards getting more information on setting up a server?

Thanks all.. Glad there's support.  We have four regular players.. one in NE, Two in AZ and me in WA...

Dunno what type of game u want to play but if i remember well
play_team.wav was LMCTF feature http://www.lmctf.com/features.html

2nd way is to use xania proxy http://www.redix.de/xania/
Quote
%![soundfile]   teamwide play command. Same as play_team in LMCTF. Play any sound file on the PC of your teammates. Usage : bind x "say_team %!world/xian3.wav Attack %u Noowww !". The %! string itself and the following .wav file itself will not be shown, but any other text will be. This feature requires every one in your team to use Xania and to have set ".st" to "on". The old usage via "!play" is also still supported.

so to use xania feature u should set own tdm server or LOKI'S MINIONS CAPTURE THE FLAG server

I don't know about specific mod support for playing sounds to each other.

However, the main server and the original gamex86.dll don't support playing a sound and making everybody else hear it. People would constantly delete sound files like their world/xian1.wav and make binds like:

alias +w "play world/xian1.wav; +forward"
alias -w "play world/xian1.wav; -forward"
bind w "+w"

You are mistaken.

Would be kewl though,  to just play the ammo, weapon, mega or armor pickips and make people THINK you picked up something.
If it were that easy, TDM players wouldn't bother with fake weapon and ammo drop/pickups,  they would just have buttons to play the sound.

Imagine if you could just play the "almost dead" health sound when you were actually stacked :)
