Tournaments aren't too hard to run.  You can run it!

1. pick and advertise the time/day, server, rules and if there is any kind of prize
2. run the tourney on the server with the admins
3. post the results

An easier tourney to run is a one-day-tourney, where if people don't show up for their match they simply forfeit.

I had considered that, and decided I really cannot, due to uncertainty in my work schedule and that I generally wake up LATE in the evening. If it really is not too much hassle, myself and I am sure many others would be greatly appreciative if someone could put forth the effort to get this rolling. :)

I would love there to be some sort of bi-weekly 1v1 tourney going on. I should be getting morning shifts only soon and I'd be willing to put in the work and time that's required to organize and run these things. But I don't have any experience. Although I guess it won't be too much of a task to learn the admin commands, what to do in certain situations, etc. if I have someone guide me.

At the very least, I can lay some groundwork. It'd probably be easier to look back at past tournaments but whatever:

-First off, is there any interest? If we can get people that're new to 1v1s but not necessarily Q2 (or new to Q2 but not 1v1, or even both), that'd be nice. If it's just gonna be the same people who are already active on the servers, it probably won't be too interesting unless they like the novelty of how they rank up in an 'official' standing. A poll would be a good place to start.

-Tourney format: Round robin -> single elimation can work, but double/single elim seems best for now just to 'test the waters' of participation. Best 2 of 3 maps of course, maybe until the (semi-)finals. We can take turns picking maps and agree/use a system/random for tiebreakers or do map kicking, whatever's preferred. Seeding could be nice but probably not necessary.

-Match format: I believe 15 minutes is the standard for tournies now? and how 'bout overtime?

-Maplist: yay other maps! dm1, chastity and ztn2dm3 would definitely be there but I don't know what everyone else likes now...dm2 (w or w/o BFG?), dm3, dm7, ptrip, ztn2dm2, match1, aerowalk?

-Duration: 1 day double elimination tournies seem to run the best. Works for fighting games, don't know why online tournies should stretch across days, although I know that two people may not be available on one day but could be able to meet up on a certain day of the week. A benefit of an online tourney definitely...but I'm sure if everyone's on the ball with communication on IRC or whatever then a small 16 double elim should only take a few hours of one day at most.

-Date: a weekend would be obvious, but it's ultimately shaped by whoever participates

-Prize: heh yeah right...well, I could offer a weird incentive of donating $.25-50 CAD to TS for every player that participates. Hell I'd donate anyway but this could be interesting.

-Other crap:  :forceac: Heh. Oh and demos are a must have I guess.

Soooo....let's get some feedback!

Besides shoutcasting, if it was organized for the players new to the 1v1 or tourney scene then I'd play. I may have shoutcasted the Damiah and Purri (possibly the best 2 q2 players on earth) match with Dahang (one of the other greats) today but that doesn't mean that I'm any good myself.

(Adren, feel free to reply with your usual childish insults)

On another note:

$.25-50 CAD to TS for every player that participates

What is that, $0.01 USD? The winner of the TS 500 may make quadz a whole 5 dollar bill!

people will play it, you just need to set it out a bit, I will promote it on the servers... this is why I cannot do it, I have no idea what my schedule is next month, so it would be foolish for me to set a time, but if someone can set it, I would be happy to promote and organize things in my free time, as well as play... another option that may work that I could run is if it were done like OGL except with brackets instead of a ladder, say, start signups until a certain date, then assign who fights who, then they can set up their matches/time with each other and a ref, and that way it would be very laid back and I could manage to organize something like that. Sorry if what i just types was incoherent.

So, we have cleaned up the Tastyspleen Leagues and put a brand spanking new site. I've gotten emailed about setting up a q2 duel tournament.  Do you guys want to see some q2 duel action ?
