Author Topic: Quake 2 Quick Start package (Read 4206 times)

There may be an incarnation of this somewhere, but I'd like to put one together that is more visible, legit, and above all useful for players just getting back into Q2. The goal of this is to make a one-download package that includes the following:

*r1q2
*a basic config that isn't ugly, and has wsad-style controls and basic teambinds
*a keyboard layout image of the above
*a pak for brightskins (not on by default, but a simple rename away)
*a pak that includes hi-res textures

Now, all of these are easily available already on the forums, but there'd be some use putting them all in one zip - especially when it comes to the config.

Thoughts?

Yeah, that's definitely a good start - I'd offer some of the non-pro texture paks as an option. Great find though!

Yesh. The point is to make everybody going "hey q2 I remember that that was pretty fun I want to play that again" will have a fool-proof method of getting back into the game. It's amazing how simple things like r1q2 and the tastyspleen.net servers (are there any servers still running?) don't come across to a lot of people.

well, I had an extra hour today so I put one together with the newest r1q2+anticheat, a few paks, a config that should work for most people, and locs for the team binds. All you'd need is a full version of q2 to apply it over.

the paks are named so someone could remove them easily if they dont like the changes.

It's zipped up so you could extract it to c:\ and it should all end up in your c:\quake2 folder where it's supposed to be.
