I was surprised. Hate towards atheism never really blipped on my radar, and I thought Muslims would be the minority group most despised in America, due to 9/11.

if you remember the movie Contact there was a panel who interviewed candidates bout their qualification. One intriguing question was bout belief in God which i say is a bit intriguing.

its an old movie but a classic. Its not the typical scifi movie.
Its based on a book written by the late Carl Sagan.

The thing with us Atheists is that we really don't care what any poll says.

We just get on with our lives, living, loving, and trying to be good in the way that nature intended us to be, without needing any religious doctrine to pull our puppet strings.

As an Atheist I can say that I have never experienced any real "hate" for my belief at all.

In my experience it is religion, not the lack of it, that inspires hatred.

Besides, I'm an atheist and everyone here still loves me anyway.

Also the good thing about atheism is that you're working from a blank slate. You don't have any religious doctrine to bias you. You can see the whole picture as if looking at it from a distance without your Bible or Torah or anything else clouding your vision.

And believe it or not sometimes we atheists do pick up on little pieces of religious doctrine that we find helpful and weave them into our lives. A simple example of this would be the Biblical commandment to not steal or kill.
