/dev/random / Re: Fast food
« on: May 08, 2018, 08:34:57 PM »
I get Jersey Mike's and Jimmy John's confused. I think it was Jersey Mike's that I've had just once. I got the largest sub they had; I paid like $12 or more for it; it was just 'OK'. I wasn't impressed and haven't been back. It wasn't bad, per se, but way overpriced and nothing special (it's been a number of years since I went that one time).

I like Chipotle. I always get a burrito and generally only eat about half of it in one sitting, and the other half the next day. For the price, and how fresh the ingredients are (or seem to me to be), I think it's great. You can get a similar burrito from Taco Bell for maybe just a little less, and it's significantly less food, and nowhere near as good.

I like Firehouse Subs, the Hook & Ladder, but, like Jersey Mike's, it's just too expensive for what you get. I got one tonight, a large Hook & Ladder. My total was around $9.60 with tax. It'll feed me twice(ish), but still, almost $10 for a big sandwich. Just seems hard to justify that cost (but I still pay it... somewhat reluctantly).

Other than the fact they're closed on Sunday (and I inevitably get a craving for them on that day), I love Chick-fil-A. Quality seems good, price is generally fairly reasonable, and I even appreciate the staff, which always seems to be super friendly.

I'm also a fan of Publix subs (though I don't really think of that as fast food as much).

I'm likely done playing now, and just came on here tonight to look over the site one last time before letting go of q2... I started playing in 1997 and stopped during college around 2004, and have missed it at times over the years. It was a lot of fun to play with you guys the last few months, reminiscing over the years in clans, watching old demos I had recorded, and trying to get good again at the jumps in the MH room on q2dm1 :) But it's time to go back to adulting and finish up here. I might be on the forum some, but I've deleted the game.

Cheers!
Whip

Well, as long as quadz keeps the servers up and running, you should be able to download and play Q2 here on the tasty servers. Perhaps, if you ever do get the itch to hop on and play again, you could try the R1Q2 client. I've used that one for about as long as it's been out (or that I've been aware of it, anyway). I've never experienced any of the issues you've described with R1Q2.

Thanks for at least popping in and saying hello.

PS - It appears I'm on a little hiatus again myself. I'm sure I'll be back again though, and it probably won't be a ~6-7 year absence like it was this last time.

I keep hearing stories about these poor law abiding illegal immigrants.  If you are here illegally, haven't you broken the law  :dohdohdoh:
My understanding: In many cases, for young adults, they were brought here illegally as children. This is the only home and culture they've ever known (or have memory of anyway). They might have no family or no support whatsoever to go back to in their 'home' country. The problem is, since they technically came here illegally (even if it wasn't their choice - their parents brought them with them), there is no pathway to legal citizenship. The only legal option is deportation. This rubs many people the wrong way, since these people are not violent, or criminal in any way other than their illegal status (which isn't a particularly egregious crime, particularly in the case of those brought here as children).

It's not as easy to get citizenship in this country as many natives seem to think it is.

I'm not sure how bad I'm supposed to feel for laughing at that

Quake FAQs, HOWTOs, and Articles / Re: What mouse are you using?
« on: March 12, 2018, 09:37:49 PM »
I was using the Logitech G303 until it started having an issue where it would double-click constantly (when simply trying to single left-click). I contacted Logitech (it was still under warranty) and they sent me out a new G403. I've been using that for a few weeks I suppose. I'm not sure what DPI setting I have it on. I use sensitivity of 4 in game. I'm pretty sure it's running at 1000Hz via the USB port. Not sure what other info there is to share. Oh, I use this massive Corsair mouse mat/pad. Not sure of the model number, but it's the one that's about 3 feet wide, which also holds your keyboard. I like it a lot.

dm / Re: DM Server Spectator Limit
« on: March 11, 2018, 03:51:31 PM »
Ipipiscratcho seems to be another extended-spectating offender (my guess is to avoid being unable to connect when the servers are full). You can kinda see if they're actually spectating too by typing "players" in the console. It will show them having the same score as the player they're spectating. If their score is zero, and remains that way, it's likely they're spectating someone that is dead on a spawn pad (afk). Doesn't always work I suppose, but fairly reliable it seems.

Quake / Re: Is it possible to intentionally lag your client?
« on: March 11, 2018, 09:40:22 AM »
Short answer, no. You probably just haven't played in awhile and you're having trouble hitting those laggy SOB's. ;)
Perhaps. I'm only seeing the warping on specific players though. One guy named [cc]crisco was doing it heavily, and then the Whipl@sh guy. I was asking crisco about it, and he said he was playing via Wi-Fi; I'm not sure if that could be the cause (I always play hard-wired into my router/modem). Probably just lag on their end. crisco did say he was experiencing some lag on his end as well.

I did check netgraph and I have only seen two individual lines of red/packet loss in the few times that I displayed it. I think those occurred around the time the map changed, so that may be the cause of that. Otherwise, things are running very smoothly for me (now I have no excuses if anybody comes and hands me my arse :P )

Quake / Is it possible to intentionally lag your client?
« on: March 10, 2018, 10:24:18 PM »
I just started playing again last night (03/09), and I've noticed a few players that are almost constantly warping around, as if they're experiencing packet loss, or some sort of recurring lag spike. This makes them very difficult to hit, as their movements aren't in any way predictable. From their point of view though, I'm not sure if they are experiencing this lag, as they still seem to maintain their target without apparent issue during these lag spikes. One player, Whipl@sh, was doing this warping thing, and when I expressed my frustrations at trying to hit him because of it, it seemed to come as a surprise to him. This gives these players a pretty huge defensive advantage, but it doesn't really appear to affect their offense necessarily.

So, is it possible that some of these players are doing this intentionally, for that defensive advantage, via some program or whatnot? I am not attempting to accuse anyone of trying to bend or break the rules, I'm just curious if this is even possible.

Outdoor Activities / Re: Whats the scariest thing you have done lately?

I went on a tandem hang gliding flight back in October.  It was a little scary, but more awesome than anything else.  I'd like to take lessons, get my own glider, and start flying on my own, but I'm not sure when I'll have the time and funds to do that.

We Need to Talk about Kevin - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242460/

It sucked.  I had read some reviews, and was under the impression that I'd enjoy it, and was looking forward to watching it.  The main actress, Tilda Swinton, does pull off a great performance, but the story itself is one of the been there, done that variety.  I wasn't impressed.  Not worth watching IMO.

Touching the Void - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379557/

Awesome movie; excellent cinematography.  It's half documentary, half dramatic re-enactment about 2 British mountain climbers that attempt a route up a 21,000 ft, South American mountain that has never been completed.  They encounter some pretty incredible challenges along the way, and the movie details these challenges.  You discover early on into the documentary that they both survive, but had you just watched the events unfold as they happened, you probably wouldn't believe it.

Anyway, great movie, absolutely worth checking out.  Oh, and don't read the synopsis; it gives too many details about what difficulties they run into, and I believe it will be more compelling to just watch the events take place as they happen.

/dev/random / Re: What games are you playing ?

I played Trine for a little bit; almost got into Fallout: New Vegas, but Skyrim derailed that endeavor.  I've put a crapload of hours into Skyrim, but have kinda hit a skid with my interest in it.  I have a whole bunch of games in my Steam library that I haven't yet played, so perhaps I might try something new soon.
