Responding to: http://forum.tastyspleen.net/quake/index.php?topic=11463.msg225472#msg225472
(But here, so as not to inundate the Movie thread with politics.)

edit: Hmmm. Was not aware of it until just now when out of curiosity I went googling, but apparently YouTube has banned Varg from their platform because they don't want to promote "hate speech". If he had any videos promoting hate speech, that would be fine. But MOST of his videos did NOT, and in the interest of GOD DAMNED AMERICAN FREE SPEECH... I personally think they should've been left the hell alone. Free speech gets eroded a millimeter at a time. This only gets worse.
To be fair, the First Amendment only applies to actions taken by the government. Private companies are allowed to put whatever the hell they want in their TOS and ban people from their platforms for anything. (Also, it doesn't apply to non-Americans.)

The First Amendment doesn't exist in a vacuum. If we didn't value free speech, then we need not care who undermines it, whether government or private enterprise.

If freedom of speech is a foundational principle, we should notice when it's being eroded.

The tech monopolies are having it both ways, increasingly acting as both publisher and platform.

There's observable collusion between social media giants, payment processors, banks, and internet infrastructure providers (e.g. server hosting and DNS) as they act in concert to deny a platform to websites and apps whose mission statement is mere dedication to hosting constitutionally protected speech.

Which leaves us in a scenario whose description should be an oxymoron:

It is no longer permitted to host a website within the United States whose mission is to platform constitutionally protected speech.

When such a site gains sufficient popularity to attract notice, and if its owner refuses to implement the censorship demanded by the tech cabal, then its app will be pulled from the Apple and Android stores, its browser extension will be removed from Firefox and Chrome, they will be dropped by PayPal and Stripe and MasterCard, and Chase Bank will cancel their accounts, and their web server hosting will be cancelled and their DNS provider will drop them. They will be unpersonned on social media, to the extent that other users on Facebook or Instagram may not even mention their website name in an "uncritical manner" lest they too be subject to penalty.

None of this is speculation; it has already happened.

The question of why it's not possible to host a site dedicated to free speech in the United States, cannot be justified by the answer "well the whole infrastructure is owned top to bottom by private companies and they can suppress whoever they like."

Not good enough.

Time, perhaps, for an Internet Bill of Rights.

His channel's primarily metal focused, but this guy is legit talented at researching and recreating classic rock/metal guitar tones (amps, speakers, mics, pedals, f/x chain, etc.)

Perhaps a few interesting points made in this article:

The Dumbest Arguments about Gun Control

(I appreciated the author's emphasis on 'friction' as an alternative to black & white thinking in some areas.)
