Hand-grenades are what make Q2 special. No other game implements grenades as nicely as Q2!

Seriously, hand-grenades are my favorite weapon in the game!  Not the most powerful, but the one that yields the most comedy! (I just wish they did more damage!!)

Q2 without 'nades, is like a dog without balls.

Aww - thanks for the vote of confidence!

But I'll work for it like everyone else!  Been itching to make a new map for a little while now!
Looks like a few of the crew from the last contest are in the line-up - this is gonna RAWK!

Woo hoo!  First time I've logged in for awhile, and a mappage contest is a-brewin'!  Good stuff.  Count me in.  I've been hella bizzy lately, but I think I can squeeze one out around next month!

We use it to prototype parts and gears - it works quite well for that.  Much faster than doing the whole 5-axis CNC machining process!

Coming in late to this thread.  Q2 rawks through the ages!  Screw realism - if I want realism I'll get a fucking gun and go to the mall for some real realism!  But that means no re-spawn!

I grew up in the golden age of the arcade (which, sorry to say kids, ended with Donkey Kong - I'm talking Astroids and Tempest, et.al.).  Anyhow, I love the fast action - Q2 is the best for superhuman feats of leaping skill, and yes, the nuances of the engine's admittedly flawed physics makes it amenable to people who have long years experience of playing it.  Agree with the earlier posts that new games are merely pretty with no depth to their actual game-play.

Q2 forever!

Does anyone know how I can get ANY item from Q2 into a standard 3D file format, like STL, etc.?

Anything from the game, from a player or weapon model, to a map!

We just got a uPrint 3D printer - the reason for this question should be obvious!

Just saw 'District 9' last week.  9/10

Very cool movie I thought.  It's what science fiction is supposed to be;  the story could have easily been a short by Asimov himself (referencing Asimov's 'Pebble in the Sky' which I just read).   Vaguely reminiscent of 'Enemy Mine' which is one of the best science fiction movies of all time.

Peter Jackson grew up in SA, and this story has been a pet project of his since his early days in film school.  Great commentary on humanity, and a very personal story, the kind that almost never gets made in Hollywood these days, especially in sci-fi.  The movie delivers on action, effects, story and theme.  It fails with a few plot contrivances, but I extended poetic license to Jackson on this one (a la Star-Trek).  Definitely worth a viewing.

Q2 maps take what, 1 hour to compile now vs days way back when?  :D  I remember actually running out of ram in a 512mb machine when compiling a map!  :D

Hell, in high-quality mode it still takes a long time.  Yggdrasil (my entry in the Q2C contest) took 23 HOURS!  On a dual-core P64 at 3.6Ghz...

A few of those maps should be added...certainly for mymapping, but also for rotation perhaps.

That's like 1 map per month since Q2 was released.

Wow, when you put it like that!  :ubershock:

So, when's the next contest?!? :)

Good times indeed... funny how different maps appear when there's lotsa action happening!

Bummed I missed Maric in-game ... I could only stay a little while.  Great crowd though - cool to see some of these forum flowers in-game!
