Quake / Windows 10 and Quake 2 Engines
« on: October 14, 2016, 06:20:45 AM »
Hi all,

This may have already been asked, but has anyone had issues with Quake II and Windows 10.  I'm about to buy a new laptop, and it comes with this installed.

I use Q2Pro for MP and KMQuake2 (first person) for SP games and Coop or Die mod. I think the KMQuake2 will work OK, but I'm concerned about Q2Pro as this is my optimum Multi Player Engine set up.    :)

Any thoughts?    :headbang:

Looks like Quake 3 / UT.  I made the mistake of leaving QII for these games, in about 2002.  Then came back to QII in 2015.  Nothing still compares to QII (IMO)   :rocketleft:

I play TF2 quite a bit, as I can really rule the servers - get called a hacker almost every time I connect - get recorded and told that I'm far to fast at sniping, and I've GOT to be using a hax prog   :humm:  .  On QII here, I'm lucky to get ranked in the middle of dm match - better at Rail tho. (not as good as Boby tho.)

Don't know much about Linux systems, and then only really know about Q2Pro (my preferred Quake II Engine)    :-\

Perhaps something like these webbys help:

Good luck!    :exqueezeme:

:bigcry:    I've been away from QII for a few months - came off bike and broke 3 bones (both elbows)    :humm:  .

Been on TF2 - sniper, but nothing like QII.     :rocketleft:      :rocketright:

Came back and wow - had my a$$ well and truly kicked     :nana:    .  Went on SP QII Nightmare and practiced everything before coming back.  Crosshair being slightly out is also something that needs to be in set back into mental memory.  Some scary good people on, indeed   :ubershock:

No point in worrying about hackers - whatever you do, they'll still be hacking!      :raincloud:   What matters is that you're not a hacker and you are having fun...

Cool vid.    :headbang:    Shame I'm not even average at jump mod.  Will give it go after my clavicle (shoulder bone) heals in about 6 weeks time!   :humm:

Good luck to everyone who takes part    :P

Great work!  :headbang:  This will make a difference.   ;D

Still waiting for broken right clavicle to heal (and broken left elbow) - came off bike    :humm:    It's why I've not been playing for past couple of weeks, and not posting much    :raincloud:

Everyone should just get along - peace n' harmony - like that song Imagine By J. Lennon    :yuck:    - 'Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can?'  He probably couldn't, not living in one of his million pound mansions at the time.   :humm:

Anyway, they should play nice games, such as Q2     :headbang:     Our main objective is not to kill, erm. OK it is and the best two ways are either depleted uranium slugs (Rail Gun) through the head or to splatter players by using a green sphere of energy (bfg) - the more splatters the better!  Erm.  just all get along n' stuff, yeah!?     :razzberry:

For f*** sake, I've missed JB night again - completely forgot!   :WTF:   Would have missed it anyway as out at a leaving do (plenty of free booze [bloke's do so actual beer this time and not warm red wine] and free food).

It'll be ages before it comes round again!   :ohreally:   :bomb:

Should have put it in my Calendar!  Will do next time...  :raincloud:  Anyway, here's the JB message for Sept.  Will there be one for October?   :humm:

 :yessign:

Always happy to give games like this the 'thumbs up'     Not that many good FPS games out there   :humm:  QII still beats everything hands down, but it'd be good to have a look at this.

There's a QIV mod that allows QII single player, too.  Never liked the QIV gameplay, but QIII was always multiplayer (and still is, I suppose) so it'll be good to see how your game flows on MP.  Good luck!   :headbang:

Quake FAQs, HOWTOs, and Articles / Re: How do I make a mod for Quake 2?

Can't create bots via this method.  Was signposting you to other possibilities    :P

Follow this interesting topic (blog etc.) by Quke.ie:

http://www.quake.ie/news/quake-2-bots-forever.php

He's been looking into bots for a while!   :headbang:

As to making your own bots, no idea.  There are a few out there ...

Perhaps go down the map making route?   :eyecrazy:  You can then create maps and add bots, using a map maker.  Skin / player making, as well?  etc.   :-\  Plenty of opportunities here, where advanced programming is not required   :humm:

One good webby for map making: http://leray.proboards.com/

There's a number of map makers around.  I've played around with TrenchBoom: http://leray.proboards.com/thread/3529/trenchbroom-simplest-editor-quake2-addon

Then, there's PAK editors, which could also be what you'd like.  And so on ...

Any help?   :frustration:    bean$

Quake / Re: New interview with "Makaveli"
« on: September 18, 2015, 07:47:13 AM »
One thing tho.  Why is Thoorin wearing what looks like quite a thick coat indoors?  It's even got that fake fur stuff around the hood.  Can't be that cold in his room, can it?   :humm:

Oh, and he drinks one of those awful energy drinks, about half way through - full of sugar   :ohlord:  Energy drinks (proper supplements with electrolytes) are all well and good, I use them for my 80mile cycle rides on a Saturday (probably only do 50miles max. now, as winter crawls in) but if you're playing a computer game and drinking it, by the time you get to Makaveli's age you're gonna be a right old porker!   :ohreally:

No offense to overweight people here (this term OK?) - I was once 15.5 stone, about 5 or 6 years ago.  Took 3 years to get rid of it, and I now hover around the 12 stone mark - hard to keep it at this leverl, as I get older   :raincloud:  I like beer and steaks, which are not a good combination for keep weight down ...

Hi Barton, thanks for this   8)   These guys are quite humble - if it was me (and say bean$ was a really, really good player in the 90s) I'd be like 'Yeah, I was among the very best - probably THE best, but was not that bothered.  I was a Quake II GOD, a No. 1 Railer - hooooyeah!!!!  Still am a QII GOD today even without playing for 15 years, take you all on, especially campers (especially Campers!     ) yeah'.

Or, perhaps not.    :nana:

:welcome: OK checked and it's EDT er. I think.  So, EDT of 7pm is my (UK) time of 00:00 midnight.

Unless I'm mistaken and it's actually EST.  All confusing, what with America being just so BIG.   :dohdohdoh:

Nice   -   I've not player Jail Break in about 13 years!  Looking forward to it.   :headbang:

The time: EST?  I'm in UK.

Better download the files, although may already have with Q2Pro - will check ...  Used to enjoy this mod. Have to remember all the old tricks (e.g. using other players to jump out to the exit etc.)   ;)
