No demos. Just lies. Ok.

Here is some more for you:

@haunted  it maybe made a tiny bit of sense when you would shit talk me in like 2010 when I started playing q2 as you were still kind of around and had interest in playing, but if you are saying the last time you really played was 2014? That is 7 years ago. You can get a masters degree in that time. You can have a child and they would be old enough to be going to school. That is enough time for an 11 year old kid to graduate high school. I'm still around the q2 community and still partake in the normal shit talking that is expected because I played 2 days ago. I played more than 10 duels in quakelive just last night. It is one of my favorite hobbies. The other people on the tastyspleen forum such as quadz and focalor play every day (on dm). When I bring up people like slugs and naymlis, its because I talked to them on the servers within the past couple of weeks. You really need to reconsider how you spend your free time.

I am honestly worried about you. This isn't healthy or normal.

If you want to play quake2, even a grudge match which I can almost guarantee with enough advance notice I can get some one to broadcast, I am more than happy any time to play some games with you. The problem is that you clearly have no interest in playing quake2, let alone in what is actually reality. The more this goes on, the more I am convinced that you need professional help.

I kind of forget haunted exists until some one brings him up or he injects himself into a conversation on the forums where he always has nothing of value to add. Very forgettable foot note in quake2 history. Do have to say though, I get some entertainment out of chatting with all the people who are better than him that he seems to be fixated on in a game he doesn't play lol
Maybe medication would help... I don't really know anyone else in any situation that will try and inject themselves into conversations and groups for a game they don't play just so they can constantly lie through their teeth and try to justify their self worth via being somewhat average (not even good) at a video game they quit playing many years ago. Definitely a personality disorder in there somewhere and it makes me feel bad for him :frowning: Must be a depressing life being lived to require going to such great lengths and manipulating reality in their mind with revisionist history just to have something they can feel good about.
Normal people just play the game they like, and the shit talk comes from playing the game better or worse than some one. Whether that be trolling to goad people into playing, or more banter to set up importance in being competitive in the hobby they enjoy.
I quit playing MMO games over a decade ago, and I can't say at any point since then have I felt the need to hop on those forums and talk shit to the players I used to compete against.
@haunted  I hope you get better man. I am legitimately worried about you. Can I help by getting you AA meeting locations in your area or anything like that? And of course if you want to duel some quake2 for old times sake I'm always up for it, though just be aware I won't go easy on you to give you a chance just because your mental health is teetering on the edge of a cliff.
@kyuSs I have seen the errors of my ways, and we should really be nicer to haunted. I didn't realize until just now how much he was impacted by not being liked in a game he quit playing a long time ago. If hes constantly reminded about how some people who he didn't get along with were better than him at a video game he doesn't play anymore, some bad things may happen and I really don't want to push anyone to that point.

Thanks for proving my point? Completely serious, I'm worried about you man. Do you need help finding resources to get better in your area?

I'm just gonna drop it as I'd really hate to see you spiral out of control. It would probably take me awhile to dig through the thousands of demos even with grep in cygwin, and that is time much better spent trying to help you overcome the challenges you are facing in life right now. Let me know if you need to talk.

If you want to play any time though you know where to find the active crowd, always up for a duel and I like helping the lesser skilled players in the community get back into it. Could spend time teaching you how to duel and help you feel better about yourself. Offers on the table.

So naymlis, kickr0, and slugs are you're only 3, the other two aren't worth mentioning. What I don't get is why haven't you listed playboy, pyrex, adrenaline, or any top tier euro players. You must've forgot to list them, right? Because clearly you're on another level than me, I know you've beaten them before.

And to be clear vae, you started this rehashing the same ol' story between us. I just think you're being a tad forgetful.

I think your memory is a little fucked.

Adrenaline hasn't played in 5 years, but yeah I've taken a game or two off him the few times we've played. He was better than me when he was playing, however I've improved a lot since then. I'd probably enjoy playing him a lot if he played right now because his peak vs my peak seem pretty close using naymlis as the comparison.

I've never lost to pyr3x the few times I've played him. He has never been active in the past 10 years. Only showed up randomly for a couple days like twice. It would be awesome to play him active.

I've played playboy like 5 times, because he quit when I was still pretty new to the game. Obviously one of the top players didn't lose to a new player still climbing up through the ranks. I'd love to play him now.

I beat div1 EDL players all the time. They aren't really that special. Players like isbjorn, purri, damiah, david, syanid etc. just don't play in america though. I don't know enough about the EU scene to really speak on who is good or not. I don't think I'm gonna sit down and beat damiah in a bo5, and I clearly stated that before.

I don't even know who you think is good, because you don't have a single clue about how everyones skill has shifted over the past decade. Justin/deft? King? Flarez? Hops? Kyuss? I don't lose to those kinds of players any more. I think those are all good players, they just aren't as focused when it comes to duel. I think all of those players are much better than you though. "Haunted" isn't even a name that anyone brings up when talking about good players past or present.

Anyone who has actively played duel or tdm in the last several years knows how full of shit you are. You'd do yourself a service to stop telling lies about me on the forums when you don't even play quake anymore. Man up and play me if you think you are such hot shit.

As I said, the only person who thinks haunted is better than me, is haunted. Maybe some other dumbass noobs on the forums are gullible enough to swallow the shit you are shoveling, but thats about it.

Tell me vae, who are the 5 best players you have beaten?

Oh now you want me to name drop? you usually just bitch and whine about that kind of stuff. You don't even know who the good players are for the past 10 years. I remember you arguing with me that slugs was the biggest noob in NA.

Here is a little history lesson for you, since you are so disconnected from what is actually going on. And yeah, it does go into my history in Q2 since some one is talking shit on me, when I have put in way more work to get good than they even realize.

I started playing when Playboy and Naymlis were still really active. Second tier players at the time were slugs and f0cus, which was already well after haunted had left the scene and they had gotten much better than when haunted played as far as I understand. F0cus and slugs are probably two of my favorite players and I love chatting and dueling with both of them.

F0cus and slugs would constantly be playing naymlis and playboy in order to try and get better and take down the two duel kings of NA at the time. F0cus and slugs would also duel each other a ton and just feed off each other getting better and better. F0cus was actually able to take the occasional game off playboy, and slugs could take the occasional game off naymlis. Well playboy stopped playing at this point, and I'm below all these players probably sitting at above average in skill level where I can take out the normal duel players like beez, skillz, senz, etc but can't really match slugs or f0cus so I've never really been able to test myself against playboy and that is unfortunate, because as a duel player I want to try him out. I've been able to chat with playboy since, and when hes chill the conversations about duel are really entertaining.

After playboy left there was some competitions held in NA, just little things, but some big names showed up. The moment that really sticks out in my memory is when f0cus was playing super well, and slugs as his parity is just right there like half a step down. F0cus took a dm1 game off of an active purri, in competition. He didn't win the set and thats fine because purri is a fuckin quake god. This wasn't a friendly casual game where purri is doing stupid shit, this was a game with money on the line in an actual competition. Obviously we know some of our amazing NA players like naymlis will be able to take purri, but this was an awesome moment of one of our tier 2 players really showing their stuff.

F0cus left sadly. Still play QL with the guy but he just doesn't want to stress about playing at a high level anymore. Focus is still one of the coolest duel/tdm players in the scene. Slugs on the other hand stuck around for a little bit, playing in the little community events jehar was putting on, showing up for every cup, still playing pub tdm and pushing himself farther in duel. Slugs got even better. Slugs also has this weird capability to just drop in, and play at like 95% where you'd expect him to have more rust. He has done that for years, and yeah if he gets some play time in he can sharpen up to 100% but his "rusty" is not as rusty as the average person. That comes into play later.

Somewhere in this timeframe, I don't remember if it was before f0cus left or after, kickr0 came back. He was playing dm as c2shoes daily, he was dueling everyone, he was hopping in teams. He was active, and kicking ass. Kickr0 is also one of my favorite NA players. Just super cool guy and super fun to play against while being one of the top tier NA duelers. Playing kickr0 helped me improve a lot, because his style is just way more understandable for a newer player coming in who can grasp duel but maybe doesn't have the same mechanical strength of some one like slugs. Playing kickr0 for a bit basically just unlocked being able to figure out how to play naymlis and slugs which allowed me to get even more high tier games in, and this is where I start to get to the level that slugs/focus were at where I'm not quite there but I can take games off good players like slugs, naymlis, kickr0 etc. This is probably like 2012 or early 2013ish, jsut going off memory.

Naymlis kind of started to play less at this point. He has remained a pretty good constant, where if we get games going consistently for a couple weeks in a row, he always shows up. Some times around competitions he would be playing daily and really sharpen up, and other times when the scene was quiet he'd just get a game in every couple weeks. Naymlis rusty is definitely rusty, but hes still the best player in NA (if you don't count scooby/dahang who haven't played any significant amount since I started). He probably takes a good few days of playing good players to really shake off the rust and play at his expected level.

There is some stuff that happens in the middle here. I was actually looking for some old dahang NADL stuff and hopped on the official NADL website, and was reminded of a 2013 competition that Barton put on. I was still kinda just getting a bit better here, but I did manage to beat kickr0 in the tournament and then barely lost to slugs (1 frag on rdm2 in overtime). So I feel like I'm playing at a really decent level by this point because Kickr0 is one of those players that I just hold up really high next to naymlis, but maybe jsut a touch lower. Slugs at this point is basically half a step down from a tier 1 player. Slugs is obviously really good at this point, but I feel like he just lacks some of the patience that good players like adrenaline and naymlis had.

Kickr0 disappeared at this point, naymlis went a little inactive, slugs went off to play COD professionally I think. Adrenaline was in there somewhere, probably last really good and active in like the 2013-2014ish era. Adrenaline is a good player, a dick, but a good player however maybe note as note worthy because hes been more of a quakelive player to me as long as I've known him.

The scene kinda quieted down for a little while. It really took just persistence to bring some of it back, and it was a lot of me just finding people to play games with and johnson doing his johnson thing and texting people to play tdm occasionally. Kyuss came back and he was playing really well. Kickr0 came back and he was playing really well. Me and a player named Nitro that I was helping get better at duel (who got really fuckin good and is #1 dm player right now imo) were playing daily and really working out weaknesses in each others games. I helped teach Nitro duel and we both learned to play dm1 better and learned maps like dm3 together. So probably late 2016-2017ish its me and Nitro mostly, and then kyuss and kickr0 and a few others hopping in and playing tdm. Kickr0 did end up dueling with me a lot, which really made me appreciate how hard he is to play against. Naymlis saw the activity and he was playing almost daily just like kickr0. So we had quite a few good duel players going at this time, and naymlis and kickr0 were not rusty. Both players are absolute beasts at this time, and not even comparable to their rusty selves.

So around 2015-2016 or so, my personal perspective is that I basically took a big break from Q2 and went to get better at QL. I spent a lot of time playing players like zorakwar, rey, julbars, gnik, ekpy, necrophag, vdmk, and even rapha a couple times. I spent a lot of time talking to the good duel players in the QL/Q3 scene, and really rethought my entire approach to positioning and what fights to take etc. I'd sit there and talk to some people for hours about how to play specific maps and why some decisions were good or bad, or what you'd want to do in different situations. I still do, because I'm not as good at QL and still have a lot of room to grow there. I was able to play at a really high level and take back to back wins off of some of the top QL players, but not very consistently and they are definitely still a couple steps above me.

I came back, new name just to chill out and play with no drama. Name apparently caused everyone to scream and cry like almost a full year after though for some reason? Played almost daily. Took my new approach to the game and really started practicing and got to a level where I was beating naymlis consistently on my good maps and going really even with him on some of my less favorable maps like dm1. Similar story with kickr0, where he'd be able to beat me on some maps (hes much better rdm2 player for the record), but I could 5/0 him other times. I firmly believe naymlis is a better player than me, and kickr0 is maybe level or slightly better, but that is about the level I was playing at in 2017.

2017 qcon rolls around, Q2 had a qcon tournament. It was BYOC only and nobody good except david even played. Deadbeat I think played in it but he was probably drunk as shit or something because he didn't live up to my expectations of him. Deadbeat was playing me a lot at the time, and playing jehar a ton. Deadbeat got really good at dm3 specifically where he'd probably win like 1/3 vs me, other maps not so much but hes such a lovable guy that he shouldn't be measured by skill.

Since the 2017 qcon thing was so disappointing, jehar decided he was going to put on a 2017 tournament for the quake2 anniversary. We have an active kickr0, we have an active naymlis, several other good players are around at this time. Slugs comes back because he smelled a tournament, and puts in a couple weeks of practice before hand. Naymlis didn't participate due to scheduling conflicts otherwise he would have won like always. Kickr0 was in there, but unfortunately dropped out because he also had some scheduling conflicts. Basically just me vs slugs, and I posted the demos. Slugs is an amazing player that I respect, he kept his chill, didn't care about the "alias" drama that everyone was crying about, and the only thing that was a bit of drama with slugs was just some lag which everyone was pretty cool about trying to find a solution to.

After that tournament the scene quieted down a bit. Nitro focused more on dm instead of duel/tdm so I lost my main duel partner. Kickr0 focused on dm more for a bit then stopped playing, so I lost my secondary duel partner. Naymlis had to go take money from bad poker players for a bit and since there were less players around he started playing less and less. I kept playing obviously, but 2018-2019 things just gradually grinded to a halt with no real notable activity.

Where we are in 2020 right now, some good players will hop on and be a bit rusty and play. Played naymlis like a week or two ago. Theres some good tdm players right now who moved here from over seas that are fun in 2v2 and are good on dm1 for duel, but maybe not a well rounded duel map roster. I'm not at my highest level right now due to the inactivity in both QL (thx diabotical) and Q2, also just losing some focus. I still play though, so I can speak about the current state of everything and who plays at what level right now today.

Some other notable things in there like fader/near going from absolute shit tier player to pretty damn good. Probably tier 2 player like slugs/focus were back in 2010/2011. Barton also put in a ton of work playing in EDL and got pretty good. Nitro I mentioned put in enough work to get better than probably 90% of people who ever took duel seriously, and then went on to be #1 dm player right now (imo). There was a dude who just randomly showed up with trolly names that acts like an idiot but has been progressively getting better bit by bit and is capable of playing at a pretty decent level if he'd ever stop trolling. A lot of shifting of skill levels. Old players coming back and getting better, or new players showing up and putting in tons of work. King played for awhile and was active, flarez came around, pyr3x showed up but really didn't shake off his rust. Blood has been playing a bit off of a mobile connection, where he only has a good game like every third game. Justin/deft been popping and out of the game over the years. There are plenty of good EU plaeyrs that moved over, but mostly seem to be dm1 focused sadly. A lot happened, understandably over such a long period of time.

I've played Q2 for over a decade now, and the only thing that has remained consistent is that naymlis is a badass duel player and even more so when he has the time to shake off rust. Naymlis is my measuring stick, and I have definitely made him ragequit multiple times in a row (hes still better, but that happened).

Nobody has read this far, but if you want me to name good players i've beat bo5 or bo3. Naymlis, slugs, kickr0 are the notable ones that come to mind. Kickr0 and slugs I've both beat in a competition bracket with money on the line, and naymlis i've beat 3/0 or 5/0 several times in friendlies and competition prep, though its usually closer and he always wins dm1 (by like 1 or 2 every fuckin time). If you think I'm bad at quake, then you are fucking retarded. However, I'm not damiah and I'm not claiming to be. All of the good players who have played in the last like 3-4 years know the pecking order. Anyone who hasn't played in years, should probably shut the fuck up about quake.

I was talking with some duel/tdm players earlier and made a crack about haunted not knowing anything about quake, and a notable one piped in that I passed that level of play a long time ago. Me and that player don't even get along a lot of the time. The only person who thinks haunted is better than me, is haunted.

I need to stop typing novels late at night. It's good to be passionate about your hobbies, but posting anything on these forums only invites trolls who don't even play quake to come in and with low effort responses that aren't even funny. Inb4 foc thinks hes funny by cutting a post down to just the "I"s. I guess anything is funny if you are that retarded, so maybe he gets a kick out of it.

Don't group me with them man..at least I was actually good :raincloud:

Imagine that. I'm talking about why your attitude makes the prospect of being around you seem less preferable to slamming ones pecker in a car door, and the only thing you're able to see is, "He mentioned me with people who aren't as good at a video game as me."

That is surprisingly consistent of you. I would have expected you to suck adrens dick. You definitely do some mental gymnastics to tell yourself it is okay to be bad at something you have done for over a decade.

I am not really sure you realize that you do this, but you cannot seem to make a post without having a part of it portray yourself as elite  :raincloud:

The same points that you made about the map could have been made without mentioning anything about skill level.

If you just roll over and die every time some inferior shit attacks you when you are trying to be helpful, then that is more of a problem than being a little arrogant. Haunted continually spreads false information about me, and I love to point out how wrong he is. Pretty sure he actually believes the garbage he says too which is quite sad.

Nobody cared what the thread was about. Nobody read the information I spent some of my time very late at night compiling and formatting. Just hopped on the bandwagon to start talking shit because they saw me post. I started out on topic, where NOBODY else was on topic except for quadz and muffin for a brief bit there.

Claiming I was never on your level given the reality and history of things was a recipe for disaster for the thread vae. Of course I could have been the bigger man and ignored it because absolutely no one believes that statement you made, so there was truly no need for me to point that out. I decided to shit on you for it and I apologize. You can get back to your helpfulness.

You have never played as good as I can play right now, and I'm a little out of practice since there are no other active good duelers at the moment. Your understanding of relative player skill level is stuck 10 years in the past.

You act like players can't get better. You don't know a damn thing about anyone's skill level anymore because you don't play. I wish you did play because I'd show you how fucking stupid you are.

I've seen probably 6 or 7 new players hop into Q2 duel and put the time in and get better than you ever were haunted. You don't even know who they are, because you don't fuckin play.

All of the players you say are out of my league, do not share your opinion. Maybe adrenaline since he likes to troll, but I have also improved significantly since the last time we played.

One last thing, Kyuss > Haunted. By a long shot.

Vae usually has that effect on things.  I know in his mind, he was being helpful but his delivery skills are  :dohdohdoh:

I posted something like 20 points about the map I noticed that weren't great compared to the original, a detailed breakdown of what changes I'd suggest with a disclaimer that it was my opinion as one player, a brief description of how it plays in QL at a high level, and a brief description of how that would translate into Q2.

Zero shit thrown at anyone until people who don't even play quake, or people who only play dm, decided to talk shit. I deleted my actual useful feedback because the community does not deserve the high value input I am able to offer on a subject that I have put more time into than anyone here.

I was being helpful. The only thing you could fault me on is stating that I hated ported maps, which I felt was a necessary disclaimer to understand my point of view. I made sure that disclaimer was also coupled with compliments to muffin's mapping capability as it isn't the quality of the maps that is the problem and more just how they play in Q2 so it was not an insult towards him. My response was quite long, which I did notice and apologized for immediately in the first line, but there was a lot of information I wanted to share as I spent about an hour running over both versions of the map and applying my duel experienced gained on it over years of practice.

No one on these forums cares about how useful the information is. Just a shit talking circle jerk of people stuck in time.

Unfortunately the majority of the tastyspleen forums are NOT quake players and are instead autistic trash that pretend to play quake while never posting anything on topic in the forums. It is fucking pathetic to see that I appreciate quake significantly more than anyone around here short of quadz. Even quadz would rather hop on the fuckin circle jerk train and try to devalue a legitimate effort at providing useful information.

In retrospect, I should have known it would just be a waste of my time trying to be generous and contribute to such a worthless group. The only ones who even posted anything on topic in this thread were me, quadz, and muffin.

I won't waste any more of my time playing maps and providing feedback so no detailed breakdown this time.

I just have to mention one thing I noticed from the screenshots, the teleport destination pad for the rail room looks to be raised out of the floor. This might just be a visual thing, but I'd suggest making it flush with the ground. The reason being is that I could see it not being as smooth gameplay wise to go through tele and immediately jump to your left towards bullets (where LG ammo normally is) since that is pretty common routing to avoid eating a rocket jumping to the more obvious ledge farther away from the tele and is one of the safer spots to restock ammo on the red side.

WELL... in that case... I take it all back. Because you can beat me at a fucking video game, obviously you are magically no longer an annoying self-absorbed shithead.

Good day, sir!

You haven't been able to make a single on topic post in the entire thread

If anyone is an annoying self absorbed shit head, then it is definitely you. Quit derailing actual discussion about quake just to jerk off about how funny you think you are.

Do something useful for once in your miserable life and go play the map that muffin posted and provide your extremely uneducated and incredibly ignorant opinion on it. It won't even be worth as much as the air you waste by continuing to exist every day, but at least you'd be on topic for once.

Opinions can change. I just have a lot more time into each quake individually. The problem with ports is that you are taking something that was already good in another quake, and translating it over to a game that is mechanically very different and hoping it will still be good. For instance I like q2dm1, ztn2dm3 and q2rdm2, but I think they translate like absolute garbage into QL and people who only experience them in QL can not appreciate how good those maps really are because the game mechanics just don't work with the layout and size. This is not a comment on the quality of the mapper, just the fact that it is not purpose built for that quake. Your ports are very well done, but it is an uphill battle to make them play at the same level as the original.

There are good ports though. Aerowalk in every quake is pretty good, however the layout and how the map plays is very different in every quake and the fact it is good seems like it was just purely luck. Phrantic in Q4 is another great example where the map plays a little different, and layout/scaling is changed where it works well in Q4. Going from q3 to q4 isn't as jarring as qw/q2/ql though. A weird example of porting would just be bloodrun between QW and QL since they are like completely different maps with just the same geometry. It is likely impossible to get a lostworld port from QL to Q2 that plays like the QL version, but maybe the geometry can be used with a changed layout and scaling to make a unique Q2 experience.

To everyone else, I deleted my feedback since it seems unappreciated and unwanted. I'll just go back to playing duel and you all can enjoy your time on the dm server without ever understanding anything about quake. Ignorance is bliss and these forums are full of blissful players.

Is this the ztn2dm3 you're referring to? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=563655427
As much as I admire Foralarx's passion in mapping, this port is frankly terrible which I pointed out in a comment on LvL. I had done a layout for Q3 that fits both physics and successfully translated the gameplay. I did the same for q2dm1, although QL physics + ramp jumping would be recommended. I'm willing to share those if you're interested but the point I'm making here is that it is far too easy to make a terrible port and just because terrible ports make up the vast majority of ports, doesn't mean it's impossible to get right (as you kind of insinuated).

As for the last paragraph, get off that high horse, knock that chip off your shoulder and realize the constant negative reactions to your posts are purely caused by the way you come across rather than the underlying messages.

I've only seen the one port of ztn2dm3 and it was pretty bad. The port of q2rdm2 is actually an OSP map and some people liked it for other game modes, but it wasn't comparable to the original. When I say I hate ported maps, I also mean the well done ones though.

The bloodrun port you did is very well executed, however because it was so close to the q3 version and less so like the tighter qw version or even the nodm version from cpma, the scaling makes it play terrible in a 1v1 situation where the +back play is significantly stronger than it was in Q3 or QL due to how hard it is to close the distance with the greater sound awareness. You probably won't experience that playing 4/5 people, but that 1/5 player really just makes the map unplayable to me personally. Even in QL I can show anyone how to survive on the map almost indefinitely and the counter play is pretty difficult (involves hitting perfect rails or trading a LOT of stack), so you take that and add q2 sound with slower movement speed to approach the fight and it does not end up fun to play or competitive. I'm not saying it is a bad map overall, I'm saying it is a bad DUEL map mostly just because of its size. It took the source material too literal trying to mirror it instead of making a version of bloodrun designed for Q2.  You are a very talented mapper, but maybe don't think about the game the same way as some one who can sit down and talk about duel positioning for hours.

One of the things I mentioned about lostworld is to make the scaling tighter, because mirroring what worked in Q3 does not mean it will work in Q2. In QL, outside mid is scaled in a perfect way that LG won't reach from end to end and that gets used a lot in fights and forces players to actually switch to MG (spawn weapon unlike Q2) or plasma. If the scaling is kept the same in Q2, chain doesn't have a max distance and would just dominate the open area with no challenge at distance and the blaster is a shit starting weapon so you couldn't really return any kind of damage if caught in that situation. I think hyper cells travel slower than plasma as well which limits that capability, though I don't know the exact ups they move at so I can't say for sure. Not to mention how terrible rockets will feel on any of the larger sight lines where they aren't an issue in Q3/QL. Q2 rockets are 500ups, Q3 are 800ups, and QL are 1000ups.

And I'm not on a high horse. I posted something I thought was actually constructive about a map I know very well, and being one of the VERY few players who is good in both Q2 duel and QL duel, offered my insight as much as I could. You don't have to listen to it because it was just feedback from my perspective and my own opinion which was clearly stated to not offend anyones poor feelings. However, getting people talking shit on me who haven't played quake in a decade and never played at my level (haunted), or are just some ffa/dm trash player who has no idea what I'm even talking about (focalor) purely because they see it as a safe target to shit talk that no one will defend is a little irritating. Even quadz hopped on the train.

Despite how you think of me as a person, I know both games very well and have put a lot of time into talking to mid to high end players about all of the finer points of duel. I'm probably the only person who occasionally checks this forum that could weigh in with any kind of actual useful information, unless some people show up that haven't posted in years. If you don't want input then don't ask for it. If my feedback is not appreciated when I thought it was something of value then I will take it back. I'm not obligated to provide insight into how to play the game to people as worthless as the ones that responded to me.

Also, focalor, I'm not going anywhere. Been better than you at Q2 since the first time I played over a decade ago and I kept getting better while you remained bad by only playing dm like a fucking shitcan. If you want to sit here and just act like a big man because you can derail a map feedback thread by talking shit on me when I post legitimate information, first consider that you could in no way match my contribution to a mapping conversation because you'd rather talk shit on the forum than learn how to play the game you've sucked ass in for more than a decade. You are a fucking waste of oxygen and a stupid inbred cunt. Jump off a cliff, no one will miss you.

I also hate ported/remade maps. I think they play like trash and are neither a good representation of the map they were inspired by nor a purpose built Q2 map.

Pay no mind to this Negative Nancy. :nana:

muffinman, your ports of campgrounds and bloodrun are two of the most-requested maps on our FFA servers.

FFA and duel are very different. Even in 2v2 I think the maps are mostly fine, but in duel I just hate how they play. This could just be because of the thousands of hours of dueling in QL. Likely my experience with the maps gives me a different set of expectations.

Seems you've changed your tune quite dramatically over the years:

Used R1Q2 for years. It was nice. Crashed a bit. Felt good though.

Switched to Q2pro, felt odd at first. Like it a lot more now. Doesn't crash like r1q2 used to. Has a lot more quality of life cvars like cl_noskins 2 (force grunt/athena instead of just grunt, nice for tdm) and s_ambient 2 (mute all non-entity generated sounds). More modern feeling for sure.

Both r1q2 and q2pro have the scripting capability I require for my complex tdm binds. Both are competitively viable. I used to prefer r1q2, but since switching to q2pro I don't see any reason to go back now. Also tried aprq2 in there for a bit due to jehar and it was cool, but didn't pull me away from r1q2 and I don't think it is supported anymore.

Yamagi never interested me. Doesn't seem to be an improvement and from what I gather people use it for convenience rather than quality.

If you start talking single player ports there is even more variety, but at that point almost none of the quality of life stuff matters.

Children on the internet will say the darnedest things eh?

I don't see anything particularly racist. Though they aren't really very well informed about the complex political issues they are very opinionated on. It sounds like just random drunken ranting. Though I will agree he does sound like quite an asshole.

My 2 cents: As long as it isn't particularly racist, and the guy is just being a dumb twat, just ignore him. The /ignore command in r1q2, q2pro, etc. works off of pattern recognition I believe so you can just list his name and it will filter out all messages from him. If he isn't spamming then it doesn't seem like it is out of the ordinary.

Political beliefs aren't really racist by default. I argued with an admin on a quakelive server who muted some one for saying something bad about a particular political party to the point that they banned me for a bit. Seeing that kind of shit happen elsewhere gives you some perspective of where overly protective admins could lead. I'd rather be in a space where you get some idiots voicing their poorly informed opinions and choose to either respond or ignore it myself, than have a server admin police what is and is not acceptable.

Why carpet the whole world when you can just wear shoes.

If they annoy you that much, just hunt them down and kill them in ways that will make them mad until they ragequit. Usually a fun way to go about it. (in the server ofc, not advocating murder) Bonus points if you get the rest of the server to join in.

1v1 and TDM Demos / Re: 2017 TS 20th anniv NA finals (online)
« on: April 17, 2020, 01:57:53 PM »
Last time I checked you still hated people aliasing against you. Did you undergo some epiphany from 2014 to 2017? C'mon dude, the drama all stemmed from slugs wanting to know who he was playing against and you would not oblige.

As far as inactivity goes, people don't play as good if they never play the game. It's as simple as that. It applies to everyone. You have applied this to yourself. You should know how unlikely it is for someone to play in tip-top shape if they never play, so you should also know how that comes across when you say something like that.

You could've just posted the demos and said he played well but instead you said he played the same as if he were active. Because you know what a rusty slugs is. You also blamed ALL of the drama on him. Everyone knows slugs can be a handful, but he was like that due to your aliasing which happens to be one of your pet peeves if the shoe was on the other foot.

Like I said, given that slugs isn't here to defend himself I thought it was appropriate to add context.

I think you are misunderstanding. The drama mentioned isn't related to aliasing at all. It was server choice. It is clearly in the demos with a long timeout while we figured out if we wanted to switch servers for the rest of the games or not. It was only mentioned as it is in the demos, but it is minor. Everyone tried to make sure to be as accommodating as possible.

I also did not say that slugs played the same, I said he played nearly the same. Maybe a good 90% of what I'd expect from him. Slugs has a surprising amount of consistency any time I see him come back and play, and the only thing that he tends to fine tune is some of the rails he can hit which he seemed to have mostly sorted out through the entire day of playing and whatever practice he put in before hand.

I do not believe I have insulted slugs with any of my statements. I respect slugs as a player and enjoy playing with him. I think you are making massive assumptions as you obviously have not even watched the demos. Stepping in to defend him makes it seem that you think less of him as a player, which would only come from your lack of any information on duel players that isn't 10+ years old.

In regards to aliasing as you keep bringing it up, this would only matter if some one was aliasing to pretend to be a bad player and have people let their guard down. The problem with that in the current context is the name that was used in the tournament had been used for MONTHS prior to it even being announced, the entire time leading up to it, very frequent play, was top in frag stats for the tdm servers for the entire time, and received the #1 seed. No sand bagging. I also have always played under a variety of random names, and I still believe there was less drama by approaching the situation this way. I played under the name that was most recognizable and representative of my current play style and skill level to anyone who had played tdm or duel that year. Jehar as the tournament admin agreed with this information.

I really believe there should be less focus on drama and more on playing quake.

You still fucking suck, clown

Good to see you alive and kickin'

Haven't seen you around q2 or QL in a bit. Some one actually mentioned other players that were always around and just went poof as a comparison. Nice to know that is not the case, though you should play more quake :D ql tdm discord been active lately, so maybe you can go give them some hell, duels would be great though

Concerning name-dropping good players to group yourself in with them:

Actually wasn't name dropping for no reason. Those are people I value as good duel players and others see the same, and I wanted to get the point across that there were high level NA duels being played at the time, and enough that multiple good duel players were active. Any assumptions you want to make are up to you, though they would be a little misinformed when the information you have to work with is close to, if not a full decade old.

As far as the rest of it... Well the drama mentioned had nothing to do with aliasing. That was also only seen in discord, and didn't impact any of the matches. This was a non-issue for the actual game and I believe a non issue entirely (played under the same name for months prior, and had #1 seed). Jehar was very cool with the whole situation, and I think everyone could take a lesson from him.

As far as respecting slugs skill despite his level of inactivity, I disagree entirely with your statements. I've played with slugs for years, and he honestly played quite well. I know what a rusty slugs looks like, and I didn't get that impression. Again, if the only information you have to go off of is a decade old then you will be making bad assumptions.

Also, good on you putting the work in to pull quotes from 10 years ago. Being able to look at the past and understand that you would handle situations differently (and the reasoning why) is a sign of growth as a person. Everyone should get that opportunity. If you never make mistakes, you can never learn from them. I have learned a lot and will continue to learn. :)
