Possibly incorrect.

95% sure this is true: In the case of the footsteps and railgun hum specifically, if AC is flagging it, they match hash checks for known sounds that are considered questionable

I did slightly misspeak.  Anticheat isn't comparing files to *base files*, its comparing the files to a list of hashes from files that are known to be ok.  Basically the exact opposite of what Orbisson is suggesting. It's not running M.'s files through a list of known cheats and setting off a flag. It's checking to see if his files match our hash list of files known to be OK. If they aren't on the list it flags as modified.

All this means is that he has custom sounds that aren't white listed in AC.  We used to build up this list and include custom files that we knew were ok. Foc's paks were probably added to that list, which is why they wouldn't have returned a modified flag when using AC.

Nope, mine were never added. Ask railwolf or maybe qwazywabbit, pretty sure for footsteps it only flags if they are known loudsteps. Test it yourself if you wanna. Drop AC in your folder, take a few extra step files and use sound recorder to boost the hell outta the volumes. I betcha it won't flag them.

Hell, I'm not really sure it even flags modded player models. I always kinda thought I could've used a modeller to add my own spikes to a model and create cheat models that I could use WITH anticheat loaded. Never actually tried it though. Modelling takes too much time to do something like that just to satisfy my own unimportant curiosity. PLus theres the fact that you gotta ANIMATE the player models... and I don't do animations anyway, I only ever learned how to do static models.

Still, the biggest question to me is... why the hell is he even using AC to begin with? It's outdated and most people don't bother with it anymore. Is this guy forced to use it for some reason? If so... well maybe things like failed footstep file checks are one of many reasons WHY someone didn't trust him enough to play without it :-\.

one question, can you use quake RTX while playing regular online quake?  whatabout if there are new maps?

I think so. I don't have an RTX card myself - my mobo is kinda older and the PCIe slot is 3.0 not the faster 4.0 you need for newer cards like the RTX ones. This GTX 1660 super I'm using is probably just about the fastest and best thing I can possibly use with this system.

I've seen plenty of other people on discord commenting on how great Q2rtx is though. Pretty sure I've heard them talk about doing multiplayer with it too, so it's probably possible. Not sure how consistent and smooth it would be in a crowded game with lots of explosions and effects going off all over the place.

Those failed files have been specifically flagged by anticheat meaning they are known to be at least questionable. And if he was to try join a server say NADL which kicked for those files he would not be able to join. They are known questionable exploits.

I don't think that's the ONLY way AC works though. For certain sounds, I think it only flags if the sounds match something on the hash list and are KNOWN. For models, however, (or at least only certain ones) it might compare them against a hash list of original stock models to check for any UNKNOWN modified models.

Confirming that no one has sent me pak files to verify.

Also reminding everyone that all those file checks mean is that he has a custom sound pak, not necessarily that he's cheating

Possibly incorrect.

95% sure this is true: In the case of the footsteps and railgun hum specifically, if AC is flagging it, they match hash checks for known sounds that are considered questionable.

I've made a dozen or more paks over the years, none of them using different footstep sounds to my recollection (I didn't see a need, also didn't want to appear as though I was trying to use modded step sounds for any kind of advantage/cheat), but I usually did use brand new self-created railgun hum and firing sounds. At the time, I also used and promoted the use of Anticheat religiously. I was never flagged for any of my railgun sounds obviously because they were new and did not match anything on the hash list.

I will admit, once or twice at most in my earlier days of playing at TS (2007 to 2010), I may have used a beeping BFG hum sound in a pak, which is technically a cheat... but it's an anti-lame-o poor sport detecting kind of cheat, so... It was maybe kinda socially acceptable I suppose. I also used a modified spawn sound (had a robot woman voice saying "entering arena") so I could tell when someone spawned in behind me during an FFA game (I got tired of getting shot in the back by spawns I couldn't hear. I do no and have never played competitive TDM/1v1, and if I did, I would obviously have not used that sound for it as it would've CLEARLY been a cheat. Then again,... theres almost never a BFG in 1v1 cuz it's lame (take notes here, 888). And unlike some people, the reason why I don't want to cheat is not fear of consequences of getting caught, but because cheating ruins the fun of a game that is otherwise fair and honest, not just for others, but for me too.

That said... neither one of those "cheat" sounds were ever flagged by anticheat. Clearly they were not stock sounds. Only explanation is they were not flagged because they were not on the hash list.

THREADSURRECTION!

Hell yes.

Been going to a Penzey's Spices store in Sandy Springs to get spices and herbs for cooking lately.

Hell no.

Screw that place. With all the divisive political crap the owner of the place said on social media during the covid debacle, I'm not gonna drive an hour or more all the way to Sandy Springs to pay twice as much as I could pay for regular spices at the Publix 10 minutes away where they don't alienate half their customer base posting hateful insulting shit towards me on social media.

Anyway... NOT THE POINT OF THIS THREAD, moving on...

Got this interesting recipe in my email.

Normally I'd say "who gives a shit" about modified footsteps and railgun hum. I mean I've used so many different modified sounds in paks over the years... but then again... these sounds are obviously KNOWN and classified as cheats - likely the loud metallic footsteps and beeping railgun sounds.

If you're gonna be one of the last folks still using Anticheat, make an effort not to use files it's gonna flag, mmkay. :LAME:

NeverLoved always says Hack~.
http://forum.tastyspleen.net/quake/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=23467.0;attach=15254;image

(NeverLoved: hax detected)

At the most, that only means he's either got a bind he hits to say that whenever someone checks the !versions, or he's custom coded his client to echo that in response to the version check. The version check is not a hack check, just a tool to see what client and version someone is running.

I can see how this might be suspicious, but there's other ways to explain what happened there. We don't know for sure if the person behind the wall was in the exact spot that rain was firing at.

More demos/videos of this person playing would help a lot. It's hard to make a judgement based on a single 12 second clip.

Yes. What he said.

If you're seriously suspecting someone of walling that you're recording in spectator mode, then it's best to post the demo itself, and then perhaps also post a video... but the demo is the most important thing. People can watch demos with offline wallhacks loaded to get an even better view of what it would look like if the person in question really were using wallhacks. That's precisely how Derv caught Krenz back in the day. The demo he posted of krenz playing looked like nothing was wrong, but with a wallhack loaded, it became UNDENIABLE that he was following player entities through walls with no sound cues.

But a 12 second youtube video isn't going to prove anything unless it's VERY OBVIOUS, and it's not. One could say he heard the pain sounds of the other player coming from that direction and he anticipated someone coming through that end of the room. Yeah, if you're actively watching someone with the predetermination to EXPECT to see evidence of cheating (bias), then you usually will.

So how come now suddenly everyone knows who the fuck you are? Did the rules change?

With quadz gone we felt it was important for the community to know who some of us were so they had people to reach out to if they problems. I can see how it would be hard to imagine why quadz could possibly have wanted to insulate us from posts such as these.

In other words...

"With quadz gone, we took it upon ourselves to disregard more than a decade of standard operating procedure and change the very elastic rules."

I appreciate you proving my point.

Anyway, done.

Sure, why be "honest" when you can be YOU and just reinterpret shit until you think you're right about everything like always.

Still not being honest. It's okay though, I know how fragile the female ego is, I won't make you admit you're DEFINITELY wrong.

I would guess if I asked you to list the core admins during that time frame where you saw 'everything that went on here' you wouldn't be able to identify a fraction of us.

Oh you mean the names on the list you impulsively private messaged me because of how capable you are of handling criticism as an admin? Was a little bit scribbling in MSPaint supposed to do much to hide their identities? Just another example of how your judgement fuckin' sucks.

Quadz was a big proponent of admins identities being kept quiet so we weren't bothered in game when we wanted to play.  Actions and communication came from wallfly or console, not from our in game names.

So how come now suddenly everyone knows who the fuck you are? Did the rules change? Did they maybe get more "elastic"?

Policies are little more elastic than they used to be. Decisions are made a lot more based on personal bias rather than objective principles.

When someone started talking about spawngirl, you had no idea what they were talking about. Pretty much every situation that's happened around here in the last 15 years, someone has to explain it to you.

But whatever, she says she's been here. Knowing what we know of her now, I'm sure she just sat there completely silent with nothing to say, which is totally... out of character, not out of character? Meh, who cares. Hashtag believe all women. Even when they are demonstrably full of it.

Sure, why be "honest" when you can be YOU and just reinterpret shit until you think you're right about everything like always.

With a single exception the admins running things these days are the same admins that have always been making these decisions. In the 'good old days' us current admins were admins making these decisions.

Would that single exception be the FACT that you weren't around at all to do any fuckin' admining from 2007 to 2019, which I was here the entire time to see everything that went on here?

No doubt if you'd been here during that time waving your liberal sensibilities around, a couple of us would've noticed you. No doubt if you'd been here being "one the same admins that have always been here", it wouldn't have been such a shock to you when someone told you that Quadz was pro-Trump seeing as how there's hundreds of pages of his posts in the politics thread about his thoughts on current politics.

Just for shits and giggles... if I make a point of posting in the shoutbox things like "THE ELECTION WAS STOLEN" or  "MRNA VACCINES KILL CHILDREN", how many seconds will pass before you start a discussion among the admins about whether or not to delete my shouts? Would there even be a discussion or would you just do it impulsively?

Dunno why you gotta private message me with screenshots of your admin privs. It doesn't change the FACT that for over a decade, you were NOT HERE, not bearing witness to all the things going on here, not seeing how things ran a little smoother, probably because of your not having an active say in it.

Best regards!

This mail may be a surprise to you because you did not give me the permission to do so and neither do you know me but before I tell you about myself I want you to please forgive me for sending this mail without your permission. I am writing this letter in confidence believing that if it is the will of God for you to help me and my family, God almighty will bless and reward you abundantly. I need an honest and trustworthy person like you to entrust this huge transfer project unto.

My name is Mr John Thomas kofi, The Branch Manager of a Financial Institution. I got your contact through a reliable source called database through Ghana chamber of commerce. I am a Ghanaian married with 3 kids. I am writing to solicit your assistance in the transfer of US$14,500,000.00 Dollars. This fund is the excess of what my branch in which I am the manager made as profit just last year (i.e. 2022 financial year). After I submitted an annual report for the last year 24th December 2022 to my head office in Accra-Ghana, I watched with keen interest as they never knew of this excess. I placed this amount of US$14,500,000.00 Dollars on an Escrow Coded account without a beneficiary (Anonymous) to avoid a trace.

As an officer of the bank, I cannot be directly connected to this money thus I am impelled to request for your assistance to receive this money into your bank account on my behalf. I agree that 40% of this money will be for you as a foreign partner, in respect to the provision of a foreign account, and 60% would be for me and I will join you in your country once the fund arrives in your account for an Investment plan. I do need to stress that there is practically no risk involved in this. It's going to be a bank-to-bank transfer OR E-online Transfer. All I need from you is to stand as the original depositor of this fund so that the fund can be
transferred to your account.

If you accept this offer, I will appreciate your timely response to me.This is why and the only reason why I contacted you, I am willing to go into partnership investment with you owing to your wealth of experience, So please if you are interested to assist on this venture kindly contact me back for a brief discussion on how to proceed.

Best regards,
Mr john Thomas kofi,
------------------

I swear, I've gotten other scam emails from a John Thomas Kofi before. Anybody else ever seen that name? or is it perhaps the same person trolling the bait at me over and over?

It was getting to the point that anyone who gets a frag gets called a cheater by certain individuals.

Why tip toe around it? 888.

We have seen numerous times where admins and good players were getting accused of cheats every time they join the server and those certain individuals were on.

And I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that Quadz forced AC on him (or muted him) for doing it, at which point he used VPN's (or a simultaneous 2nd client) to evade it. And when Claire and Shloo came along, they got duped into letting him off with nothing. Probably why he's STILL doing it. He's been shown that no one will follow through.

Policies are little more elastic than they used to be. Decisions are made a lot more based on personal bias rather than objective principles. In the old days, shit ran a little smoother. You did A, then B happened, and you couldn't talk your way outta B no matter how much sympathy you could illicit with whatever song and dance you employed.

None of the admin decisions need to be emotional or personal or difficult to arrive at. We all know what's always been allowed and what isn't. You go over that line, boom, warning. Over it again, boom, small predetermined consequence. Over it a 3rd time, boom, big predetermined consequence. At that point, admins aren't getting pissed off because they have to spend inordinate amounts of time dealing with problems. Problem occurs, if they're guilty, you apply the consequence, it's quick, and it doesn't have time to put you in a bad mood or ruin your night.

Tron (1982)

Downloaded it from a torrent - not sure what the source was. Did they update this thing or something? Maybe it's just been so long that I don't remember it, but it seems like they rearranged parts of the movie, added scenes, etc, I'm not really sure. It had a couple of parts in it with animations that looked a little out of place and too advanced, but then again... this movie was WAY ahead of it's time when it came out. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid although I so seldom watched it because they so rarely ever played the whole thing on the Disney channel back in the 80's, and I didn't have a VHS copy of it. It's just a great all around movie. Kids and casual moviegoers like it because of all the stuff about video games and the cool special effects. But there's also plenty of embedded religious and philosophical subtext to unpack as well if you're into examining movies that deeply.

Also... Looking at it now, it makes me wonder if the story wasn't a veiled representation of the evil corporate Bill Gates (Dillinger) vs the heroic independent Steve Jobs (Flynn).

Some "prophesy" from the movies dialogue:

Dr. Walter Gibbs: "After all, computers are just machines, they can't think."
Alan Bradley: "Some programs will be thinking soon."
Dr. Walter Gibbs: "Won't that be grand... computers and the programs will start thinking, and the people will stop."

Yep. That's social media alright. :dohdohdoh:
