for not sugarcoating that...might be a remote possibility to do if I can simplify the entities down to three or four models with simple skins, because it's more of an instructional video to show the needle's intrusion and one effect of that (coagulation). whew! now I'm beginning to understand that original $8,000 figure in terms of manhours.

Hi,
My brother-in-law needs to create a 30sec medical animation for use in an educational video/site associated with his business. He's paying a USF Theater student $500 for the voiceover, and he was quoted $8,000 as the cost estimated for the video.

The 30sec clip needs to show the inside of a vein, with the blood cells and platelets flowing past; then a pic needle pierces through and the platelets coagulate around the point of entry, all of this shown from the "inside the vein" POV.

Now I've worked with Illustrator/Photoshop(duh! who hasn't?) but I have no experience doing a technical animation, like one you would see on the news, e.g., a new heart pump or how a drug interacts with a cell, etc.

He's offering me $4,000 if I can do it. I can get 3D Studiomax, "the only software I'd need" according to someone I spoke with. I am crazy to try and learn Studiomax just enough to get this 30sec clip finished? I have about three months, but he's putting in the proposal Jan1 -- meaning he needs my confirmation and fee figure by then.

THANKS for your opinions,

GYNster -- Adren's prodigal forum groupie

Actually its a reference to one of krez's rap recordings where he says "kickr0, you may be a nigger, but my dick is still bigger".  It was a comedic post to be understood only by others who have been in on the 'joke' before, as it were.

Where's the funny, the "comedic" content? I've heard all of Krez's posted rap recordings, some posted here, some posted at q2players.org -- but more importantly, they were funny precisely BECAUSE of Krez's monotone voice, completely lost in your transcription to disconnected text. So really to be "in on" the joke is to HEAR the raps...as it were[sic].

And here's a great joke I wish everybody was in on:

lame

we need to institute an immediate and far reaching boycotte of all tastyspleen servers, irc channels, and forums.

This will be my last post.

+backr0 is one of the most boring players to watch

+backr0, it is sometimes said that you're a ..., but I can assure you that my ... is still bigger.

excellent post nick.

Nick wanted SOMEBODY to play MadLibs with him -- so excuse that socially awkward, passive aggressive, and indirect plea/random posting-style -- I'll give him a little cyberburping over my shoulder and use my variable noun generator to complete the lib:

"+backr0, it is sometimes said that you're a...polygon, but I can assure you that my...penguin is still bigger."

Hmmm, that's randomness for ya! Now go back to your nap little canuckian.

« on: October 30, 2008, 04:46:29 AM »
Last minute rail frenzy/clinic saves this demo from being just another random 3v3 pickup.
 :rocketleft:

+ not a total railwhoring pov, with some good rox/ssg/other weaps
++ 2:10 where kickr0 with a blaster defends in water against other player & Slugs

Close, but kickr0 does get in a few more shots on you than vice versa!

« on: October 28, 2008, 10:14:46 PM »
 :forceac: ...on Nybar! ahahha.

But seriously, both slugs and nybar have been playing long enough to know who the other is...I would think? Slugs seems like a rhythm-based player who aims at the end of movement(i know "duh" -- the mouse both aims and points in the direction of travel), BUT the flipside of that opinion: Takes more time to get into a groove where movement efficiency and aim timing sync up, than that of a pure TDM player who aims off position.
 :offtopic:

So check out the last two minutes of zone-like, sync'ed up pure entertainment in this pov -- particularly how uncannily slugs can evade dying by a combination of speed and well-timed/placed jump spots...and usually with less than 10h!

+ slugs going slug-crazy in last 5mins while enjoying the q2 physics
++ Leo as always classy :) :)

- Nyuuubar spoiling the fun with silly walling innuendo
- 2on2 pickups have notoriously unpredictable outcomes, since there's no organized clan presence but ++ makes for more entertainment!

1v1 and TDM Demos / Re: 187 Slugs vs Nybar THE RAGE (SLUGS POV)
« on: October 28, 2008, 09:45:37 PM »

:forceac: he even called slugs a waller lol
:purpleshock:
He used to say that about Naym in mm2 if you remember that, but then took it back.

But anyway, I watched THIS demo last of the slug-nybar trilogy(ptrip and dm1) so I didn't know the shittalk context -- was the rage match first of the three or ??
Unfortunate that somebody older skool than crusty krez chooses to take the trashy path right away...and against a ra2'er. Btw, not to instigate but only to tease the possibility of ra2 v. ra2 style on Rage: Wouldn't a justin/slugs Rage match be fun? I gotta go with deft though.
 :notworthy:

+ good armor control, wise weap choices and anticipation rails from Slugs
+ funny watching Nybar push Slugs around with pills at one point. Nybar a pill pusher? NOOO? (hopefully he's over that in rl)

- sad sequence at 5:35 I think, watching Nyuubar [j/k! and fyi - he IS better than you goatkilla] unable to dj to RG.

Quite a funny first few minutes in an obviously very friendly demo: reminded me of bookshelf a little with the "+walk/bullet drops into water" charade, before the action starts -- you know he's not fooled though, right?  Nybar's got the superior chain/ssg here, but he's also a chaser and plays with a similar attitude to FlarEZ. Refreshing, semi-humorous, and entertaining demo here.  :a134: :a134:

++ [BTF]Reflex alert: cammable rail sequence from 1:10-1:00min  --  good stuff Slugs
+ very efficient, quick movement: nice dm1 mapfoot-fu you got there!

Funny to see Nybarious "Pleased to Greetcha!" back, in some semblance of that word. Actually nice SSG action from him and a few well-placed rox. Kinda decent ptrip demo, relatively speaking: "sluggy" demo (coupla good rails/pov playername!) with a few strats to show, but only good for a four-min view, which coincidentally enough, is how long the demo runs. Was looking forward to seeing some bizarre nybar'isms in mm1...

 Nybar married? omg he used to feign this trippy white-meth-rhymster persona a lot. She's gotta be one strange cookie too.  :dohdohdoh:

tastyspleen.net / Re: Whats with these newbies as admins?
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:59:13 AM »
The pattern is that the people who have done / do this to me, all seem to neglect their warnings and persist to keep coming for more.

Except that, for some reason, this doesn't seem to happen very often to the other 18 people in the Tourney Referees group.  (Only about seven of them are still active... but even counting when they all were active.)

As such, I can't help but conclude that some aspect of your behavior, attitude, or personality must be contributing to the disproportionate number of complaints generated.

.......riiiiight?

:nana:

Just wondering a few things...how many of those seven admins played/plays tdm AND dueled/duel at the level and frequency of haunt? What I'm driving at is that you asked whether "some aspect of [his] behavior..." sparked the shittalking -- is it a possibility that haunt's numerous posted demos, trick shots/jumps posts, and voluminous thread contributions/observations all add up to one big target symbol for those who personalize q2 to an almost pathological degree,e.g., Bl00D?

I'm not blaming the "victim" here; I'm just pointing out some highly conspicuous circumstances that are almost unique to haunt's "case." He's got some strong, POSTED opinions; he's got some impressive, POSTED demos and clips and maybe above all, he's got tons of..yea you guessed it POSTED condump-backed accusations/defense. Something to consider.

p.s. yo NETICZ: what happened to your zen-like, casual attitude you displayed when you came back to q2? If you're gonna shittalk, at least be original and funny, not spouting wiggerisms -- i'll go oldschool on you -- think crazyfunny like DS-Shaftian, aT-Shek or classy like sh4ms was.

::sex/chauvinism/standups::

I saw a comedian at the Tampa Improv who gave me a mild laugh: "Dating's so hard now...I mean I met this girl recently and I find out she's against premarital sex! So I tell her 'Don't worry honey, I don't plan on marrying ya!' It's just called FUCKING!"

Two points to add to the DaHanG/PeeWee/Quadz tangle:
:erhmmm:
(and whew! nothing like wading cold into hot!hot!hot! water)

1. About the word MYTH: My philosophy/religion professor studied briefly with the late Joseph Campbell whom many know elevated and illuminated the word "myth." A sticker in my professor's office read "Myths never happened; they're always happening." The point here (as Campbell has thoroughly researched) is that throughout history cultures develop remarkably similar "stories" or "myths" to explain ultimate concerns -- viz., origins of life, death and justice. The word unfortunately now denotes falsehood and links to the root word of mythology, a worldview that conjures up deities squabbling with one another, mortals making sense of it all and fighting fantastic creatures! Just a bland, un-nuanced shallow word now.

p.s. I believe that reading Campbell helps unify people on a deeper level. For the un-initiated, here's some nerd bait: Lucas consulted Campbell when writing his script for Star Wars to help formulate the plot themes(The Son becoming the Hero to confront the Father, Light/Dark Forces, etc.)

2. Here's a great quote/question from Colorado Confidential reporter Dan Whipple posed to anyone that believed the central implication of the Ben Stein film Expelled but could easily apply to anybody who believes Intelligent Design aka Creationism:

"The National Academy of Sciences recently issued a report saying that "The rapid advances now being made in the life sciences and in medicine rest on principles derived from an understanding of evolution." The report cites successes in combating the SARS virus, development of drought and pest resistant crops, and the creation of enzymes to make corn-based ethanol, as recent developments to which evolutionary theory was indispensable. If evolution inspires as much evil as your film argues that it does, should we refuse to use these technologies until they can be replicated by an intelligent-design-based research program?"

Man, if u didnt notice that in the last demo
so did he run around with bfg too.
:dohdohdoh:
Umm you missed my point so I boldfaced the word. I'm sure he did run around with BFG, and I'm equally sure he didn't walk with it! There's no point in walking with BFG when it's one of the noisiest weapons to carry, much more noticeable than a rg hum.

 :yuck:
All ya need to know about this demo: For the first few minutes I could watch, Razor actually creeps(walks) around with BFG under the impression that he's stealthy, quiet. With BFG?? beep...beep...beep?

Ugly, ugly map with tons of armor, health, weapons -- great for chaotic, absurd FFA's.

Ptrip Bl00D next time
