Not sure what alias he uses these days? WallFly hasn't seen a "Capt. Whoopass" for 1869 days. (I was going to try a reverse trace from the server to whatever his latest IP is.)

Porkchop is Capt. whoopass.  I brought this matter up about a week ago here.  I did the trace route  and posted it to the help section of Tastyspleen.  I called my ISP and complained they told me the could not really do much about it.  So... Until the bottle neck gets cleared where ever the hell it is I will just have to live with it. 

It is funny that a guy that plays on the WODX server I  used to play on still gets 40 ping and he only lives about 20 miles from me.

Trouble Shooting / High Ping 200+ Last 7 days on TastySpleen Servers WTF!?!??

I am in So Cal.  Normally Play on TS Wodx servers with a ping of 44 or lower.  Now the ping is over 200  ALL THE TIME.  OMG. I  Cannot play at this terrible dialup speed> HELP!!


Gumby's server is still at around 40 for me though.

Any ideas or fixes?

I  tried to run 1Oquake3 per your instructions, but I get this error  (see below) and it fails to load anything.

That will work.  I used to use black skies before I got my eyes fix because of the glare from the extra light.  Now I like it because it helps me pick off campers sitting on the top of buildings shooting at me.. (poser?  Is that u?)

Also,  we need a command that allows us to minimize the game to desktop with out logging out.  That would be REAL nice.

Right-click and copy low.cfg into your weapons folder, then type: exec low.cfg
Let me know if you come up with something more optimized that still looks OK.


I copied and pasted the above cfg commands exactly as you said and the game performance was vastly improved for me.  The graphics were a little lower, but not by much.

My computer is only about a year old with no game video card. 

In the old quake engine you had a command to change the sky.  (I like "sky black").
Are those commands available in the new engine?

I think both commands should work fine, but either way I updated the file anyway.


The command  "set" makes more sense. 


I have tried to log on to the server a couple time and it fails to connect because of map compatibility issues  (I have the same problems on El Paso server too).

Maybe I need to delete some maps that are on my end to force the program to  download new versions that are on the server end.

Got it working now.  I have put autoexe.cfg and config.cfg files all over the place (4 different places)  and I finally must have got them in the right location.  Thanks Poser and Ruiner.   It is really tricky where to put these config files so that the game can  see it correctly.

NOTE:  Ruiner in your alias file you have  made a little error.  You have
the following

set in_joystick "1"

and it should be...

seta in_joystick "1"


Barton-  Thanks.  I forgot about that type of program for these pads.  Mine came with one but it is an old version that will not work on  Windows 7 for some reason.

I did all that stuff.  Still does not  read the commands in the exec files.  Also,
the game will not recognize the hook alias in the weapons folder's  autoexec.cfg file.


Now here is an interesting thing also,  in the game browser I set the Wodx test server in the favorites file and I looked the listing and the gametype listing came up  as "error".  Check that out.

When I go to Options> Input  on the main menu there is no toggle for using a joystick.  Just stuff for the mouse input selections.

Interesting that the new version of Warsow does not have any way of binding my  favorites keys.   Aux keys and Joy keys.   (from a sidewinder gamepad)  :( 

The lower version did.
