Quake / Re: Quadz, the Loquaciously Multiloquent Member
« on: July 11, 2021, 11:18:54 PM »
While I hope somehow this is not a real thing, I'm ruined by this news.

Quadz was a lot of things in one man, and I always looked up to him. He taught me multiple values that have enriched my adult life and he always managed to do it with an attempt at humor and a humility that I doubt I could ever replicate.

He taught me how to be a better person in so many ways. From him I received a wonderful example of how to question everything and to strive to be logical, reasonable, and critical in a world that values these things less every year. At the same time, in the same man, he showed me exactly what it was to give deeply of oneself, and to value the power of community and the interaction of many minds, most of them vastly different from one another. Somehow, as a guy supporting a niche old fps game about murdering each other about as fast as we can, he managed to teach me how to love people better, and be people better.

Thank you Quadz

Considering what it cost us in American lives the last time that we weren't ready for the Russian and Chicom backed NK army to come marching south to take over that specific peninsula, we should have more than just 3 carriers sitting there.

We learned in the 50s that the air force wasn't enough to control the peninsula against ground forces being resupplied through protected routes through China that we refuse to interdict.

We should have a good 100,000 ground troops with their heads on straight sitting there to stiffen up the ROK, and more tanks and mobile rocket launchers than you can shake a stick at.

That war has been going on since the 50s and we sure as fuck didn't start it. A group of Russian citizens of Korean descent and a shitload of Chinese communists started it, and got a lot of us killed to flex the borders of world communism a touch and fight over a bunch of fucking rocks vs "the west" for propaganda purposes.

They never gave up, and the west in the form of the UN bitched out long ago and wanted peace instead of us pushing them all the way back over the Yalu into red China.

Back then, a bunch of sissies in high places bet on the commies tossing nukes our way over the outcome of a limited war, and they backed down and tried to negotiate peace with a group that had no common interest in peace, while offering them a ceasefire for nothing.

Giving them a ceasefire removed an incentive they had to sue for peace. The commies didn't want peace, and unsurprisingly they've managed to prevent it for 50+ years now. Maybe the west will learn their lesson on this after 100 if we're still around.

The communists will never ask for peace, until you literally shit on them so hard they can do nothing else.

I've been doing an herb garden for my kitchen, and trying out various southwestern veggies that grow in the dry hot we get here. Usually have basil, flat parsley, cilantro, rosemary and mint going year round.

Roma tomatos seem to handle the 90+ degree weather a lot better, and hot peppers and green onions and such are made for it.

For the winter months (more 80-90 degree temps, but occasional clouds) I planted spinach and garlic over the weekend in long skinny windowsill container pots that I use to do rows of stuff aboveground. I might try some Romaine lettuce if it actually cools down a bit.

I got one outdo herb plant to completion this year without the bugs destroying it, and it's curing now. Whole house is a bit stinky, and I have a nice wooden arbor frame out back with screen stapled all over it to keep the fucking moths out when I start up again in spring. No more dealing with the tobacco budworm that literally chews its way through your nugs.

As of this year you can legally buy clones here, so I'm going to see how they do once January rolls around.

This is a really amazing jump demo.
I showed it to my receptionist who games but doesn't play quake, and she could not stop watching it for the whole video.

It's almost mesmerizing and the amount of memorization and skill required to do all these runs right is so impressive!

« on: April 14, 2017, 02:06:03 PM »
This is my 4th year since quitting. Went from pack a day, to 5 a day and eventually started limiting when I could have one to after noon. Once I could do that I just stopped buying them and went right to 0.

It took 6 months or so for the majority of the built up tarry shit to come out, and a year before my lung capacity started to come back. You will breathe better in the long term, even if you were at it for more than a decade, it just may never be what it could have been without ever smoking.

I still burn some herb, but no vapes, no smokes and I don't really miss it anymore even if I'm drinking.
After meals and when out drinking were some of the worst times, and that moment when I first fire up my truck and roll down the window still makes me itch a little to light one but it's just a back of the mind kind of thing.

keep on keepin on

Q2 Training Camp / Re: What is a md2 file?
« on: March 28, 2017, 08:53:58 AM »
.md2 is the format for the various 3d models used in quake 2.

players, items and some of the world objects in the single player campaign are all composed of .md2 files, with a .pcx file as the skin that goes over the shape.

You could probably script it with wait commands into an alias like people use for double jump aliases.

The getting the entities bright, while the map is not, will require gl_modulate to be changed to the higher one without doing a vid_restart after. When you change map tho, it will do the restart and you'd need to execute an alias on beginning the map that sets it back to normal, then re-applies the alias that make it bright.

I'm seeing 38ms on "testing.tastyspleen.net" and about 35ms on "tastyspleen.net.

I wouldn't even notice that ingame.

all told, you should have done what everyone else does when Optica shows up to vanilla to run up a kill streak vs completely terrible newbie players: put goto in your console and find another server.

That way he can just run around the map by himself. Feet: Vote with them.

It's one of few votes you can make that won't be nullified by a combination of gerrymandering and a bunch of dumb white hicks who will be losing their handouts and medical coverage in the near future thru nobody's fault but their own.

Quake / Re: Any pre made server packages out there?
« on: September 19, 2016, 09:14:48 AM »
the only thing I remember having an actual windows frontend for loading the server up, was the OSP tourney mod. dunno if it will work on a x64 os, since I haven't tried it in a while.

It would work for some simple team or ffa games. editing a couple text files for the maplist and server settings was pretty straightforward.
