Quake / Re: Quadz, the Loquaciously Multiloquent Member
« on: July 26, 2021, 07:08:56 AM »
I only found out about this news today, so sad :(. My condolences to his family and friends.

Quadz's dedication to running TS deserves so much praise, there's not many people who would put in this amount of time and money to support a 20 year old game. Just look at these forums, there's over 15 years of history among these pages. Every interaction I had with Quadz was positive, whether it was helping to make anticheat better by reporting new hacks or bypasses or giving me access to TS to help debug R1Q2 server issues. He will be missed. Hopefully his legacy of TS can continue with a new owner in the future.

Quake / Re: Quake 2 netcode and tick rate
« on: May 30, 2017, 08:11:02 AM »
There isn't a way to increase it in a compatible way. I added experimental tick rate scaling to R1Q2, it can be controlled via sv_fps on the server and both R1Q2 and Q2PRO clients support it. However the general feeling was that it changed gameplay too considerably, eg the chaingun becomes ridiculously powerful when there wasn't as much built in latency.

If you haven't already, contact support at softlayer and see if you can get a discount. One of my old servers I ordered in 2011 at another provider started getting a bit expensive for the price and I was able to negotiate a 40% discount to the point where the price was good enough that I only had to replace it in December. Dedicated providers make a ton of profit on old hardware that would otherwise be unsalable, so they usually prefer giving discounts vs losing the customer entirely.

Softlayer generally have one of the best networks so it may be hard to find something comparable. Leaseweb also offer Dallas dedicated servers, as do iweb (internap). Make sure when ordering you always talk to a rep rather than buying through the websites, you can usually get much better deals. It's also worth checking out WHT for any specials, but be sure to research the company as there are a lot of fly-by-night resellers out there. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=36

(Also right as I was talking up softlayer, we have 60 ms from ATL->DAL?!)

Quake / Re: q2servers.com server move

You need to use the "Apply Filters" button, it looks like you tried to do a player search (which ignores filters).

Quake / q2servers.com server move
« on: December 01, 2016, 07:14:09 AM »
Hey all,
I'm moving some services to new servers. As part of this move, q2servers.com got a new IP. For those of you visiting the website or using a server browser, this is no problem. If you run a server though, the old IP may be cached until you re-issue the "setmaster master.q2servers.com" or restart your server.

Should be fixed as of the latest anticheat update.

Able to reproduce it here too. Strange it didn't happen in testing. Will try to figure it out.

Thanks for the .dmp file, unfortunately it seems like the crash corrupted the TEB so there's not much debug info to go on :(.

Make your 404 page smaller, R1Q2 is aborting since it's receiving a large error page each time there's a 404. No need for error pages when it's never shown.

The Q2PRO r1504 May 5 2016 build will connect to an anticheat enabled server, but if I then /reconnect or /connect to any other anticheat enabled server, it crashes every time.

Tested on both Windows 10 and Windows 7 with latest anticheat (2016-05-04). MSE installed but with an exception for anticheat.dll. Running as Administrator makes no difference. Windows 7 crash log below, if it's useful:

Code: [Select]
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:           APPCRASH
  Application Name:             q2pro.exe
  Application Version:          1504.0.0.0
  Application Timestamp:        00000000
  Fault Module Name:            anticheat.DLL
  Fault Module Version:         0.0.0.0
  Fault Module Timestamp:       f797943c
  Exception Code:               c0000005
  Exception Offset:             00030c0a
  OS Version:                   6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
  Locale ID:                    3081

Does not happen with the last Q2PRO r1504 Dec 3 2014 build from skuller.net/q2pro.

Less important, but aclist lists the client as ??? instead of Q2PRO.

Hmm I made sure to test the reconnect / new server code. Can you make a .dmp file from task manager while the "stopped working" dialog box is still open?

Q2PRO support is available. Requires a custom Q2PRO binary since the official version of Q2PRO no longer has anticheat support built in.

Available on https://antiche.at/

This crashes on windows 7. Quake2 gets to the part where it says "loading anticheat, this will take a moment" it hangs there thinking for about a minute, then freezes, sometimes q2 does load but the anticheat doesn't load even though it's there.

Update the file manually (R1Q2 Updater or download from https://antiche.at/)

Fixed another crash bug, new DLL is deployed! There was a small window where a broken DLL was on the server, so if anticheat isn't loading at all any more, try re-downloading or run R1Q2 Updater.

Quake / New Anticheat Release
« on: May 02, 2016, 06:05:14 PM »
Hello everyone!

I've just pushed an updated anticheat.dll to the server which I believe should resolve compatibility issues with Windows 10.

Unfortunately, this means the file has changed and many anti-virus programs will begin throwing up false positives due to the packed file. Please be sure to white list your quake 2 folder or the anticheat.dll in any anti-virus / firewall or other security software.

While the auto-update should work, due to anti-virus you may need to manually update by replacing anticheat.dll with the version from https://antiche.at/files/anticheat.zip. Also note that it still might crash on the first run as the problematic code is run before the DLL self-updates.
