i've tried to set up anticheat, but it must not work, because anytime i join a tastyspleen server, it says i do not have it installed.

oh well, i tried. no idea what i'm doing wrong. it was frustrating, but clearly not a big deal since it isn't enforced and most players don't have it.

The anticheat.dll is simply placed in your quake2 root directory next to the game client executable.
It's a 32-bit DLL so it only works with 32-bit r1q2.exe clients. It doesn't work with q2pro, q2rtx or kmquake2 or any of the other clients, afaik.
The r1q2 client can't be built from source. It must be r1ch's original distribution. The last version of that was b8012.
Self-built clients don't have the secret sauce needed to use the anticheat module, for obvious reasons.

thanks! this is helpful. i'll look into this and verify i'm running things in 32-bit and the right clients, etc. i appreciate it

in a match the other day, someone threw rockets down to me... as i continued to try to kill this kind individual, i managed to blow myself up.

where on here do i find rankings? i've found the player stats, but in that file it fails to show the number of minutes. what am i missing?

I don't have r1q2, and I've placed the anticheat.dll in two directories. I'm not sure which is correct, but I imagine neither, since the servers I played on yesterday failed to recognize the .dll.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\quake 2\
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\quake 2\baseq2

Are neither correct?

thanks alpha... i had felt so guilty whenever i'd join a game being in violation n' all that

though, through my terrible play, i'm certain NO one was concerned that I was cheating!  lol
