Quake / Turn up the blood in Q2?
« on: July 20, 2010, 04:23:42 PM »
Hi everyone,

Leaving performance aside, does anyone know what is the best client and settings to use to maximize (I mean all the way up), the 'gore' factor of Quake 2, especially blood effects?

As much detail is appreciated (i.e, specific settings in config).

Thanks!!

To each his own.  ;)

Lithium is it's own beast with it's own strategy/physics, and gameplay can differ greatly from server-to-server since it's so configurable.  On server with relatively slow hook speed, the hook becomes only a tool to assist in movement, but ground skills remain quite important, amongst other things.  Then, of course, we have runes, which then adds to the strategy to defeat your opponent.

For those that don't know what runes are - they're power-ups:

  • Strength (Red) You inflict 2x damage
  • Resist (Blue) You take 1/2 damage
  • Haste (Yellow) You fire twice as fast
  • Regen (Green) Your health regenerates slowly
  • Vampire (Purple) You gain health for damage inflicted

 ;D

Interesting thought!  It's come up a few times that Lithium players and DM players [may] have a hell of a time adjusting vice-versa since different physics are involved (not to mention the hook).

One of the things I'd love to see is some Lith Railz play maybe every week at a scheduled time.  There's certainly a bunch of railers out there, and when you add on the "hook" which leads to the possibility of being railed from any direction, it gets interesting.  8)

If anyone wants to check it out, goto lithrailz, and bind (somekey) +hook

Hi All,

Not sure if there are any IRC freaks in the bunch, but I've started an IRC channel for Lithium! I figure its a great way for old-school players to find each other and hopefully at some point start to arrange games and such.

I've got an applet setup for easy access @

http://d3s.us/chat (just click connect once the applet starts)

For those with IRC clients, come in and idle @ irc.enterthegame.com #quake2lithium

Hope to see some of you around!  ;D

irssi.

Signed - for a console app it has an excellent interface. Also, it's ssh-friendly :D

irssi + screen just rocks if your a command line/shell person.  Tons of scripts out there for it, and even if you're using through putty on a windows box,  there are some clever ways to get visual notifications (which is a must have for me).  ;D

tastyspleen.net / Re: How About a Lithium Server to Replace Vanilla2?
« on: March 09, 2010, 09:42:55 AM »
As a general update to this thread:

I was able to contact and work with the author of Lithium (WhiteFang) to address numerous bugs and security issues as well as release the source code.  The new release can be found @ http://quake2.lithium.com (Lithium is a server side mod, players don't need to download anything.)

Contrary to some belief, Lithium II has been played throughout the years and has a player base!! However, was not properly represented on Tastyspleen until recently.

For all those that have heard of Lithium, or know folks that would love to play again, I strongly recommend giving the mod a try!!!  Recently we've started to see the return of some [BITCH], =GOM=, and [T2k] clan players to the game along with the steady {FLP} players.  Weekly, I'm starting to see players log in and say "I love this mod, I haven't played in 10 years!!"

q2.d3s.us (in the independent zone, goto lithium2) is the place to come and find Lithium DM players!!  Server settings have been revamped to provide gameplay that's adaptable to the various different playing styles.  All skillsets welcome!

http://d3s.us (server's home page with map-pack, user-guide, stats,etc)
http://www.clanflp.com (Quake 2 Lithium II Community)

What makes Lithium awesome???
- The hook baby!!!!!  (aka red-laser style offhand grapple)
- Runes (powerups for strength, haste, resist, vampire)
- Physics!  (Air-acceleration)

Quake / Lithium II Mod v1.30 Official Release!
« on: February 01, 2010, 07:02:20 AM »
After 10+ years, Matt "WhiteFang" Ayres returns to the Quake 2 scene with v1.30 of his signature Lithium II Mod focusing on stability and bug fixes!!

Grab it now!!:
http://quake2.lithium.com/

What is Lithium II?  - Lithium II is a very configurable server-side modification for Quake II which includes deathmatch and CTF modes.  Lithium II is well know for it's red-laser style off-hand grappling hook and runes.  Have a closer look at the feature list here.

What's New
->Lithium II is now open source under GPL!!  The code base will be maintained by WhiteFang, so feel free to submit your additions for inclusion into future releases. For source and SVN repository (coming soon) see above.
->Updates from R1CH's v1.25-R1 release have been incorporated, which includes various security related fixes as well as the "invisible" player bug fix.
-> Voting now ignores observers.  You must be playing in order to initiate or cast your map vote.
-> Command line voting (works in previous versions as well). vote map <mapname> (for example: vote map q2dm1) in console.
-> Default map queue behavior on vote now changed.  Map votes no longer resets map queue order after voted map finishes.  However, if you prefer the old way, use mapqueue_resetonvote option to reset map queue after vote.
-> intermission_maxtime option now added.  By default, this will force map change after 30 seconds post intermission.  This means, your server map-rotation will now work regardless if someone idles for hours.
-> High Scores bug now fixed, will no longer crash server.
-> CTF bug now fixed. Clients will no longer crash in CTF mode after hitting flag capture limit.
-> Observer bug fixed.  When in chasecam mode, 'observe' will now work accordingly.

For the complete changelog, see here.

Thanks to WhiteFang for the new release!  :D

PS - Tastyspleen Community: If you're looking to try out Lithium, "goto lithium2" (or connect q2.d3s.us) on the independent zone -- we have quite a few folks that play often!!

Hi everyone!,

To clarify, in reference to the independent Lithium server:

IP/Host: q2.d3s.us <~~ this is the correct hostname!!
Goto: LITHIUM2  (from any tastyspleen server)

This server has Runes, Techs (Both powerups), fast hook, fast rockets, fast weapon switching, Air-accelerate, and you start off with lots of rockets and rails to get right into the frag-fest.  Additionally, this server will also be beta testing new versions of the Lithium mod as it comes along.

For more information, including the server's map-pack, stats, and explanation of Runes and Techs, see here:
http://d3s.us

A HUGE thank you to Quadz for all of his assistance with getting this server added to the independent zone of tastyspleen.

Hope to see many of you stop by for some frags - Lithium style of couse  ;)

PS - [BTF]Defiant!  <~~ Definitely had a great time when you stopped in!

PM a place where I can upload it.  As for copyright, I am not affiliated with Filesource in any way, I just pulled down the whole site because I felt they were a 'rare' find.  I gather you could host the files (perhaps not the html site) without any issues.

If TS or anyone is interested, I have a complete site-rip of FileSource - it's about 400 megs (7z) and includes the HTML files.  With some minor HTML modifications, a mirror could be created.
