Quake / Re: R1Q2 and Steam
« on: February 08, 2016, 11:23:44 AM »
I can connect to the DM server installing the version you posted above but R1Q2 crashes about 5 to 10 seconds after joining.  Is there another client that will allow me to use anticheat?  I know it is not a firewall/anti-virus setting.  I have disabled both of those to remove them from the equation.  Any help you can provide is much appreciated.  I am running Windows 10 and haven't changed anything in terms of the default config generated by the link above.  I downloaded the anticheat.dll from the antiche.at website as well.

My bad.  I should not have used his name.  However, I was not using a bot.  I will keep trying the link you sent me.  Thanks for the help!

I actually found my old Quake II install CD from the late 90's.  I couldn't find any information regarding Steam and R1Q2 so I installed the original CD version and the 3.20 update.  I have R1Q2 installed but I have a few problems.  First, I don't think the R1Q2updater.exe is working.  I run it from the command line as administrator and nothing happens.  Secondly, I have been able to connect to the DM2 server about half the time before QII crashes to the desktop.  I can connect to the DM server but I crash to the desktop within a few seconds.  B8012 in the version of R1Q2 I am running.  I do have the anticheat.dll in my Quake 2 directory.

Quake / R1Q2 and Steam

I am looking to get back into Q2.  I downloaded Q2 from Steam.  It appears I need the anticheat developed R1Q2 to play on tastyspleen.  Has any one been able to use that with the Steam version. Thanks!

I noticed you have the same mouse as I do.  Does using the directinput make a difference?

Cool, I will try that.  A couple questions though:  If I put that in my autoexec, do I have to delete those lines from the config?  Also, does the order of commands in my config matter?

I have vid_fullscreen set to 1 and still doing the same thing.  It is odd.  In the video options in the game, it is set to fullscreen to.  All I have to do is select the r1gl drive in video options (even though it is already selected) , and it kicks in to fullscreen.  I am using the command fanny suggested as well.

Additionally, are there any other setting I should adjust when running 1920 x 1200?  Like FOV or something?

Defiant,

Which client are you using, and what are your settings in your config to force that resolution.  Do you have a problem getting Q2 to launch in full screen mode?

Okay, I have it working, sort of.  I edited the config as bullz suggested above and that seems to work.  However, when I first load up r1q2.exe, Q2 launches in a window.  Then I have to go video, select r1gl as the mode, and it flips to full screen, forced at 1920 x 1200 no matter what resolution I select, which is fine.   Is there a way for me to get it to launch in fullscreen?

I talk to Pun all the time.   He is doing well.  He thinks he is grown up now so he doesn't play.  What a loser....j.k...

Thanks for the info, adam.  Do you know if the bot protection here at TS will allow me to play with one of those clients?

Has anyone been able to get Quake II to run in wide screen, specifically 1920 x 1200?  I know there is a way to recompile the exe to enable this for single player, but I imagine any messing with the exe will get you booted from TS servers.  Thoughts?

Trouble Shooting / Widescreen Or Regular LCD Monitor?
« on: May 12, 2006, 05:40:18 AM »
Well, my 21in Sony Trinitron finally is crapping out on me.  I am looking at replacing it with a LCD.  I have been looking around and I am confused on whether or not to buy a Widescreen or Regular format LCD monitor.  I have a 7800 GTX, so I can support higher resolutions, but do games that do not support the funky widescreen resolutions look bad on widescreen monitors?  I realize some of the new games have widescreen resolutions built in but I still play a lot of older games.  If widescreen is going to be the standard in the coming years, I guess I am better off with one of those.  Anyone have a widescreen? Would you mind sharing your experiences?  Thanks...
